I did find this one cite which showed that 24% of Americans supported a Social Security cut in the early 80s and that number declined each year afterwards (also, that people consistently would approve of cutting military expenditure above cutting social expenditures).
Surely the election of Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan demonstrates popular support for across the board entitlement cuts.
