There’s only two places you’ll find odder ones: North Korea and Burma.
The BBC’s security correspondent Frank Gardner, who has met the Libyan leader before, says the address seemed to be coming from an army barracks in Tripoli - appearing to confirm that he has not left the capital.

We should establish a no fly zone over all of libya, like we did with Iraq.
I want to see this fracker and his sons hung by the neck from lamp posts.

I don’t know how keen the Libyan people would be if the US did this. They don’t exactly love Americans screwing around in their country, after all, and I don’t know if it would really help…most of the fighting is happening on the ground. I think the Libyans are going to have to do this one pretty much on their own, unfortunately.
In the end I’m pretty sure that Kaddafi is going to take the long drop though. I think it’s gone to far for him to be able to pull anything out of this one.

The airforce is attacking bengazi as well as demonstrators in Tripoli. It’s time to do the right thing. The libysn ambassador to the UN asked for this. We have little idea what the people feel about the West.
Well hopefully those people who might otherwise have remained loyal to him will get a bit more thoughtful when they see his statement.
I mean, moral issues aside, standing behind the government at this point has got to be a suicide pact.
The Koch brothers have been trying to get something going for decades. All they can do is make sure that a nascent movement like the tea party doesn’t die on the vine due to lack of funding. They can bus tea partiers into Wisconsin to counterdemonstrate but they can’t actually go out there and hire coutner-demonstrators.
I honestly think he’ll be lucky to get anything as “dignified” as a hanging. If he doesn’t commit suicide first, the people will kill him before they even find a rope.

If the UN formally requests that the US impose a no fly zone then that’s fine. I have no doubt that Obama will do the right thing. Until that happens, you aren’t seriously saying the the US should act unilaterally on this are you? I don’t see Obama doing that, and I would agree with him…we shouldn’t act unilaterally on this.

To end oppression.
Think Mussolini.

My guess is one of his own security guys or someone in the military will see the writing on the wall and put a bullet in his head. I don’t see him committing suicide. Possibly the crowd will get him, but I doubt it.

I hope so. He’s citing Clinton and the Davidians and Tieneman Square as precedent for going hard-ass now.

Agnostic Pagan you forgot the Warning Science Content message! You have to prep your audience before unleashing graphs about the difference between calendar types…
(Plus, I’d suggest that they use Kaddafi to test out the scene from Demolition Man where the bad guy gets complete frozen alive and then shatters with a single boot to the head. I think Grant could make a boot kicking robot pretty easily, and it would be fun to see what happens to Kaddafi if someone dumped a lot of liquid nitrogen on him slowly until he froze solid!)

I knew I forgot something! Dammit. And I defer your superior suggestion (but no, you cannot use that as a sig

The opposite of conservative is not socialist. The opposite of conservative is progressive. The opposite of socialism is probably closer to libertarianism isn’t it?
In what sense is Qaddafi a progressive compared Ann Coulter?
I suppose the true opposites of socialists are laissez-faire capitalists. And no, Qaddafi is definitely not progressive, but he claims to be socialist. I really wish he wouldn’t though.

What picture of a girl?
Ah, it is not up now. It was on the Daily Mail site that davidm linked to. Hopefully it will reappear. It was an AP photo of young girl, wearing a helmet looted from a soldier I assume, flashing a peace sign. I’ll see if I can find it.
And while Libya has seats on the UN Human Rights Council, considering the entire delegation has defected, they will probably be the ones introducing the resolutions condemning their country. I hope so anyway.
With what goal - that Israel withdraw from the West Bank? But then Israel will have to deal with protests by the settlers, and while there may be more Palestinians, the settlers have a lot more guns.
n his second television address since the start of the current unrest, Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi says he will not leave Libya and will die a martyr. He criticised ‘Arab media’, saying it painted an insulting picture of Libyans.
Gaddafi says Libya has resisted Britain and the US previously, and it will not surrender now.
He also said:
“Muammar Gaddafi is not the president, he is the leader of the revolution. He has nothing to lose. Revolution means sacrifice until the very end of your life”
“We challenge America with its mighty power, we challenge even the superpower”
“Muammar Gaddafi is not a normal person that you can poison… or lead a revolution against”
“I will fight until the last drop of blood with the people behind me”
“I haven’t even started giving the orders to use bullets - any use of force against authority of state will be sentenced to death”
“They are just imitating Egypt and Tunisia”
“Protesters want to turn Libya into an Islamic state”
“If you love Muammar Gaddafi you will go out and secure Libya’s streets”
If he really believes all that he’s past delusional.

He’s been delusional for years. I’m just surprised there isn’t actual froth coming out of his mouth as he gibbers away right now.
Well, there you are. Withdraw the IDF from the WB, and leave the armed settlers and the numerous Palestinians alone to hash things out between themselves. Very soon, one way or another, you will have a solved problem! ![]()

I know you put a smiley on this, but it’s a seriously bad idea…and also a hijack of your own thread. If you want to talk about Israel you should start (yet another) thread about it in GD.
