Lieberman - what are the dangers?

I laughed with glee the day I found out about Joe Lieberman.

The Elders Of Zion have spoken. The endgame is upon us. The Worldwide Zionist Conspiracy will take hold. We already have our own the media, the banks, and a country with nukes.

Now we will have a superpower.

Next the world!
:j

No really, though, what’s the deal with this topic? It kind of reminds me of the line from Chris Rock’s “Bring the Pain” where he talks about why Colin Powell will never be nominated for the vice-presidency. He said something along the lines “5 million black men will have the president in the cross-hairs. S***, even I’d shoot the president.”

The Associated Press reports that one Lawrence Franco, age 23, has been arrested for making a death threat against Joseph Lieberman during a call to The Howard Stern Show. Franco supposedly stated that Lieberman “is gonna take my bullet,” and when asked by Stern if he was making a threat, allegedly replied “I’m telling you right now… You got the killer on the air.” An individual identifying himself as Franco’s uncle claims it was all “a joke gone wrong.”

Food for thought, in the context of this thread.

Wah.

Quick hijack:

Not that I’m really standing up for Hillary, I need to take a moment and point out that Lazio isn’t the ‘local boy’ for a majority of the state of New York. Most of the country, including NYC, underestimate the resentment that upstate NY has for “City Politicians”. While there is a lot of resentment of the Clintons, even the hard core conservatives around here aren’t that thrilled with Lazio. Yes, Hillary is a carpetbagger, but to most of New York State, so is Rick Lazio.

Oops…oh well, at least I hijacked my own thread

ed:

Since he’s from Long Island rather than NYC, that resentment isn’t so much of a problem to him. Also, bear in mind that Chuck Schumer, a full-fledged city-dweller, quite handily won election over Al D’Amato in 1998.

No way. For a member of the House of Representatives, they might see him as such, but for a Senator, they certainly see him as closer to understanding their interests than Hillary.

As far as Lieberman poisoning the Middle East peace process, wasn’t that fear pretty much laid to rest with Henry Kissinger?

Winning against D’Amato was an inevitability. He had become an embarrassment to just about everyone associated with him. Here in albany, even the hard line conservatives were sick of him.

And being from Long Island is no great help, we tend to lump NYC and Long Island together anyways.

From the point of view of someone who lives in the middle of this, I can say that this is not the perception. Hillary has become extraordinarily popular in upstate NY, mostly because she knows that this is how she will win the most votes and has focused her campaign here. Remember that for upstate farmers, the interests of NYC and Long Island are often at odds with our own interests.

I don’t really want to vote for Hillary, but Lazio would be a terrible representative of my interests. Third party again, I guess.
