I’m so sorry for what you are both going through, and I do understand. I had a ruptured ectopic pregnancy in 1992 and lost both the tube and the ovary on my left side. I wanted children so much and the loss was crushing. I clearly remember even now the fears of recurrence, and how it felt to face the possibility of never being able to be a Mom. If it’s any comfort at all, I have since had three children. The last child was a complete shock, having been conceived in spite of using birth control. As incredibly difficult as all this is–and I really know that it is–it does not necessarily mean the end of your hopes to have children. I just wanted you to know that. (Also wanted to say that I had a cyst on my right ovary with that last pregnancy–they didn’t even know about it till the C-section.) ---

Life absolutely isn’t fair. Sometimes, that unfairness means we get more than we deserve, and sometimes it means we get less, but it’s never exactly fair. On the good side: My understanding is a lot of women have cysts all the time that don’t do anything but sit there, looking ugly. Be kind to yourselves. Be good to each other. ---

My thoughts are with you two. During my first marriage, my wife had a blighted ovum and it was crushing. We’d already told everyone and after we lost the pregnancy (which was never really there in the first place) we had to go through that soul-crushing process of telling the bad news everytime someone asked how the pregnancy was going. Sucked. My fiancee now had an ovary removed when she was younger and also has severe endometriosis. She wasn’t supposed to be able to have kids w/ the deck stacked against her like that, but she got pregnant and our beautiful daughter is turning two in May. This sucks now, but you still have a great chance of a successful pregnancy in the future. ---

Thanks again everyone. By way of update, we made a new addition to our little family yesterday - Sally, who is a kelpie/cattle dog. She has made D feel a little bit better already, and Walter, our kelpie/border collie is in love. ---

For what it’s worth, I had the identical experience 16 years ago and now have a strapping 14 year old son conceived thru IVF. Back when chances of success were only 20%. It hurts like hell when it happens but don’t give up hope. ---

Just a quick update (sorry for bumping an old thread). We had another loss at about 9 weeks in November last year (Melbourne Cup Day of all things), however falling pregnant is one issue that we don’t seem to have. We got pregnant again almost straight away and have just had our 13 week scan (the first time we have got to this stage) and everything is looking perfect. I have a good feeling about this one. We’ve dubbed him/her Rudy, as its a fighter. Fingers crossed. ---
