Not exactly. A diesel engine relies purely on compression for ignition. There are RC engines that work on this principal, but the cox .049 is not one of them.

Yes, most diesel engines do have glow plugs to make them easier to start, but once they’re running, the glow plugs are shut down.

According to Wikipedia, the cox .049 does work on this principle – the glow plugs are disconnected once the engine is running.
