> The fact that his actions in the first episode seem to have saved his girlfriend’s life really bugs me, though. I think it’s pretty obvious that his body is in a coma, in which case none of what’s happening in 1973 should affect real life. If the show is going to posit that Sam’s time travel is in some way real, I’d like to know that so I can watch it as a sci-fi show, not as a realistic fictional show. I need to know which “Suspension of Disbelief” settings to use, dammit! 🙂

Well, maybe it wasn’t what he did that saved her - maybe, unlike every buddy cop movie ever, some other officer saved her while Our Hero was in a coma because he’s not the only competent cop on the force. Maybe that just happened to be the moment she walked into his hospital room and got a word with him.

I like that we don’t know if it’s sci fi (complete with changing clothes?!) or psychological. It’s like a whole show of _Normal Again_. But yeah, I keep having to flip my S.O.D. settings, too. Delightfully frustrating!

> I liked it. But I’m wondering how they’ll handle the question of why he’s in 1973. Without spoilering anything, the UK original went for a fairly surreal explanation. And it was funny how I recognized each character from the original (the hardass Gene Hunt, the young detective and so forth).

Well, the fact that the apartment building he was crossing to had a sign in front saying it was built in 1973, _and_ he was listening to Bowie’s _Hunky Dory_ on his iPod seconds before getting hit by that car makes it easy to assume he’s just imagining all this. Especially since the very first case he works on has a direct tie-in with the case he was working on back “up-time”.

I think it’s still pretty up in the as to whether he is crazy, in a come, or a real time traveler. I know how they resolved the BBC series, but this is American TV. If it’s popular this could go on for three or four years longer than the original series, and would have to deviate form their ending.

Perhaps Nature-girl Neighbor is this version’s Creepy Test Pattern Girl?

Oh, that would be a good one. But she isn’t speaking in rhymes.
Is there a thread for last night’s show?
