My FAVORITE potato chips are Simply Lays Sea Salted Thick Cut. I was able to buy them at the local grocery store, Target and WalMart. At some point in time, the grocery store and WalMart stopped carrying them, so I would make a special stop at Target to get my chip fix. One day the trumpets played and the angels sang - they were back at WalMart! So for a couple of years, I was in chip heaven - I bought two bags a week. About a month ago they disappeared from WalMart’s shelves. ☹ The Lays guy happened to be there stocking shelves so I asked what happened? Where are my chips!? He said the only place he stocks them now is Target. I don’t normally go to Target and I hate making extra stops when I’m doing my grocery shopping. So I haven’t had a proper chip fix in over a month. ---

I just learned Mazda no longer offers a manual transmission on the Mazda3 at least as of the 2020 model year. Not that I’m in the market for a new car anytime soon, but I’d always considered the Mazda3 my first choice if for some reason I needed to replace my Miata with something more practical. But I really prefer manuals, so I’m disappointed Mazda no longer offers one. ---

About six months ago, I bought a (new) 2018 Mazda 3 with stick shift, because manual transmission is no longer available starting with the 2019s. (Same for the Mazda 6.) Mazda had a crazy promotion over the Memorial Day weekend, and the 2018s were going like hotcakes - I had two sold out from under me. Wound up going to a dealer about 200 miles away to buy one at the trim level I wanted. So I doubt there’s any new ones left now… ---

Last year, eldest had to scour the country to find one of the few remaining, and incur significant expense to get it moved. (He is super-picky about vehicles, and wouldn’t accept it being driven to the NE, only shipped) As a driver of one of the old manual Corollas, I wonder if Toyota has gone all auto now. ---

I finally got around to organizing the pileup of comics in my junk room. I put together all the Wolff & Byrd - Counselors of the Macabre (eventually retitled Supernatural Law) by Batton Lash. The series folded in the 2000s. Wolff & Byrd are lawyers that represent supernatural clients such as monsters, mad scientists, and victims of curses. It paid homage to the old horror classics and parodied more recent (at the time) horror media such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the Anne Rice books. The subplots detailed the life behind the scenes of the major characters, experiencing the more mundane difficulties of everyday life that can be scarier than dealing with monsters. There was an effort to adapt W&B to film, which required the series to be renamed for some reason, but it stalled out. I looked up Batton Lash on the web to see if he had any other works out there, and saw that he died in 2019. He did illustrate another series called Obamanation on Breitbart, which was criticized for being racist… Wait, WHAT??? Lash had never showed any real conservative bent in W&B/SL. The few times the content had any political elements, he’d parody the extremists – paramilitary groups as well as environmentalists. There was one story where the FBI raided a haunted house and inadvertently formed a swastika pattern, which would have suggested an anti-conservative stance, but that’s it. I found a few panels via Google, and saw that Lash portrayed Obama with Dumbo-sized ears and Michelle as a powerhungry egotist. Even though the series was scripted by somebody else, it was like looking at an evil mirror universe. I couldn’t believe Lash willingly took part in this. The only justification I can think is that he got to the point where he was willing to take any kind of paying job to put food on the table, but I find small comfort in that. DAMMIT! ---

It’s been a hot minute but if you’re still jonesing for a good chip try Boulder Canyon kettle chips they are supremely finger licking good! My minor disappointment is today for the first time ever I wanted to try grocery pickup and it’s N/A. Shuffle off to the store I go now. ---

I have been working from home, and wearing glasses as much as contacts for the last several months. But it has been annoying because my glasses are very scratched, and the side screw-holes are stripped, letting the lenses pop out. I finally realized that I can get new glasses(as a contact guy, glasses were always the backup I didn’t think about much). So at my eye appointment last week I got some new glasses. Except I didn’t. Three weeks! Why the hell do my glasses take three weeks? Even as a kid there were one hour optical places. I understand they don’t do that in the average eye doctors, but you’d think they could submit the numbers in an online form, and some factory machine somewhere would beep to life, grind the lenses, spray a coating, then somebody grabs the frame, screws them in, to the lenses, and in the mail by morning. But noooooo. The future is far less than I was promised. ---
