# Lih? Lie?

What is the offical pronunciation of “Linux”?

Lih-nux or Lie-nux? I have heard people call it both, and I have both sides make fun of the other for the way they pronounce it. Any Redhat reps here? Anyone else know?

See [How to pronounce Linux](http://www.csn.ul.ie/~caolan/docs/linux.html). From that site you can link to a download of a .wav file of Linus Torvalds himself pronouncing the word. It sounds like LEE-nucks to me…
