You know what I find most disturbing? I’m listening to Bush give his little speech afterwards from the teleprompters and, that’s what it was. A speech read from the teleprompters. Clinton could act. Clinton could BS. It looked as if Bush had no clue what he was going to say, no clue what his next opinion was, until the screen scrolled up a little more. I don’t want 4 years of a presidency by committee. I don’t want the speechwriters ruling the country. Sigh…I want Jebadiah Bartlett. ---

Congratulations on getting it settled - it’s going to be something to tell the grandkids. Here’s hoping for some statesmanship in victory as well as defeat. Oh, and Swiddles, if you’re scared of tempting poor Coldfire with your feminine ways, my couch happens to be completely vacant as well 😃 Seriously, as I’ve posted before, don’t turn the fact that every vote is counted into a problem. Don’t count on it. Palm Beach county did not count 1000 votes. They requested two more hours and were denied. So they had to use the machine tally, probably costing Gore about 700 votes. This along with mob rule in Miami-Dade county that stopped the counting there. I didn’t vote for him, but Florida officials on Bush’s should have been very subtle with the way they robbed the votes for Gore. This will go to the US Supreme Court. ---

Algore should freaking concede already. I’d have a lot more respect for the guy if he abandoned this “win at all costs” attitude. It’s teaching America that it’s okay to change the rules if following the rules doesn’t get you the expected result. For the record, I am not a fan of G.W. I couldn’t vote in this election because I couldn’t vote for any of the candidates without alienating my own conscience. I think the Democratic Party should concede this one and put together a strong offering for 2004. Without winning the popular vote, G.W. is vulnerable and the Democrats could do to G.W. what they did to his dad in 1990. ---

If _Roe v. Wade_ didn’t legalize abortion in the US, what did? And the corollary question, what does _Roe v. Wade_ actually do, then? If fearing for the reversal of this decision is misplaced in the efforts to keep abortion legal here, what should people be worried about? C’mon, **Aglarond** , you can do better than that. ---

Olent, ``` IIRC Roe says the states cannot outlaw abortion. If it was overturned tomorrow, abortion would still be legal unless and until some state decided to outlaw it and passed a law doing so. I don't know if any states would do that (maybe Utah?) ``` ---

Ah, gotcha. So it makes abortion a federal question rather than a matter for the individual states. Given the consideration that abortions are only available in 14% of the counties across the U.S., it certainly seems to be reasonable to want to keep a federal decision in place that won’t allow states to ban abortions outright, no? ---
