Like Father, Like Son—Bush on Atheism

Not trying to stir the shit but is there any country in the world that asks it’s people to pledge alligance to it on a regular basis?

Maybe places like N. Korea of China maybe but I’ve never heard of another Western Democracy having an equivelent that actually is used on a regular basis.

Oh and as to the OP. I agree

I liked “E Pluribus Unum” more, but maybe it’s time for an another update. How about “Trust in God, but Watch Your Auditors?”

I am so fucking sick of being a second class citizen when it comes to this crap. I saw a woman in the military being interviewed about the PoA issue. She said we were being ridiculous…that we shouldn’t be upset because it allows us to worship WHOEVER we idolize. Except I don’t idolize anyone. Well, maybe Jimi Hendrix. But I’m sure Bush would have a problem with his version of the Star Spangled Banner.

Agreed. Quite a few of the people who weigh in on this subject don’t seem to understand what atheism means; the idea that you can live your life without worshipping anything seems completely foreign to them.

Sigh … I sometimes wish we could trade George II for Tony Blair, but politicians being what they are, I suppose it wouldn’t make much of a difference – he’d start pandering to the American majority soon enough.

God damn religion nazis!

God damn Senate, did all of you have your balls ripped off in return for getting elected?

AAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGG

Oh President Bush:

There are some people who we can look back and consider their impact on history and when we do wish their mothers had strangled them with the umbilicle cord.

I’ve had to listen to the drivel spewing forth from your mouth for too long. First it was the endless speaches that seemed to be written by 10,000,000 chimps chained to typewriters, but we all know they were written by SOMEONE YOU HIRED BECAUSE YOU WHERE TOO STUPID TO FIGURE OUT WHAT TO SAY BY YOURSELF! And we know you’re stupid, because the person you hired to write your speaches is a fucking idiot!

Then I watch CNN and hear you say this.

You motherfucking piece of rancid rectal discharge. Do you not understand the first thing about this country? Have you had your head so far up Jesus’s ass felching for all you’re worth that you don’t understand that the LAST thing this country needs is an all fundi christian judiciary?

WHY THE FUCK DID YOU PEOPLE VOTE FOR HIM?! We all knew he was a moron, and could barely run Texas. IF YOU CAN BARELY RUN TEXAS, a state that just wants to shoot shit and execute prisioners HOW THE FUCK DO YOU EXPECT HIM TO RUN A COUNTRY.

Between the president and the senators this country is so utterly fucked. If the christian right ever does gain control of this nation I hope to hell that each and every voter in this country suffers an extremely long time before they die.

If we’re already at the fucking point of being required to have good little christian puppets in the courts how long do you think it’ll be before evolution gets thrown out the window… But naa, people will say evolution is no big deal. After a few nears nobody will mind, or care when they throw out the rest of science.

I mean, who needs science when your prayers can cure cancer.

This is the Pit CRorex you don’t need to hold back. Tell how you really feel

yojimbo, I read on another thread that only the U.S. and the Phillipines pledge allegiance to their flag. Can’t vouch for the accuracy of this.

Jodi, well . . . yeah, thanks for pointing out my statement of the obvious. Was that really necessary or were you just feeling particularly smug?

Well, if the ruling gets overturned, I’m just going to replace “God” with “Eric Clapton”. He’s a god, isn’t he?

Who actually believes that we derive rights from god?

All of our rights in this country derive from a set of laws, made by people who were willing to DIE, and were quite often murdered by people who didn’t want to see change.

Hell, this country was founded on the idea that people kidnapped from Africa were subhuman slave labor. I didn’t see GOD protecting their rights.

Hell, I didn’t see god protect one of his faithful when Dr King was murdered.

200 some odd years of repressing people not part of the power establishment… GOD did nothing. People made the changes. So lets put god back in control.

See people.

I’m not sure if I should be angry, or sad.

I honestly don’t care anymore. I’m not young enough to believe that there is a good and a bad side anymore. There is just the side with the power… and you can only hope at some point there is a side willing to fight to make things better.

At time like this you know what I think?

We can’t get past using religion to tell us how to think, to show us who the ‘good people’ are and who the ‘bad people’ are. We are using books 2000 years old, to dictate our society, to give us morality in a world nobody 100 years ago could invision. Look at the bigotry and hate that the christian religions have been dealing with recently?

Gays are against god’s will, they are evil.
We need to kill abortion doctors.

This country finally got a REAL taste of what religion fundamentalism is all about with the Al Qiada attacks.

And now here are our leaders, trying to get more and more ‘good christians’ into positions of power within our government. People with good christian sense and know that from god flow all of our rights.

Will there be anyone left in this country who will care, or will still have a voice when we start prepairing the children of this country to strap bombs to themselves? Or will every man woman and child take arms to stop out people opposed to our ‘good christian ideals’.

How about…“One Nation, Under Cecil?”

And my fears just keep on being realized…

Plenty of people whose scriptures advance that idea. Doesn’t mean they’re right and doesn’t mean they’re wrong. Just means they’re there.

I trust this is just hyperbole.

Bullshit.

How about “One Nation Under a Groove”? I pledge allegiance to the supergroovalistic nation of prosifunkstication! The uptight non-hip got no glide in their stride and no dip in their hip, so we got to drop Da Funkbomb, bring in the Mothership and refunkatize this place. If we can just get the atheists and the theists to get down just for the funk of it, we can all be party people and paint the White House black!

I nominate gobear as the Secretary of Getting up for the Down Stroke.

That’s good gobear but the Funk is dead. I much prefer this one:

From Mark Montford

gobear:

You just reminded me of the Funkadelics. Remember “We Got the Funk!”?

“Funkadelic” What a great name for a…

Oh. Never mind.

Oh, I’'ve been a devoted member of P-Funk Nation since the late 70s. George Clinton and Bootsy Collins taught the Red hot Chili Peppers, among many, many others, everything they know.

Free your mind and your ass will follow.

<Arguing with fundamentalists mode>

Hang on, God is everywhere right? So we shouldn’t say one nation under god as that implies he’s only above us. Why don’t we just strike the whole thing and people who don’t say it of their own free will can go to hell in their own way?

</Arguing with fundamentalists mode>

NB don’t make comparisons with the inquisition. It can give people ideas.

BTW personnallty I’d just say it, but it strikes me as daft a whole country saying something they don’t believe in.
