How about you respond to the question as asked, and save the snark for the Pit? I asked a starightforward question.

On this board, with its particular culture? No, I don’t see a difference, if the number of thanks are tracked.

That’s your suggestion, but that’s not how like/kudos systems are implemented on any messageboards I know of, and you weren’t the only one proposing like/upvote/kudos systems…

Maybe it’s the fact that you act as though you’re the be-all and end-all of what is and isn’t gamification? As though the rest of us are ignorant about what it is (and isn’t)

No, it not.

The issue is about those (older) poor elements of gamification design, which even gamification proponents have dropped as poor design choices, like leaderboards and other scorekeeping elements.

My question was about how this is functionally different. Yes, hidden thanks systems would be great, but like I said, that would be novel and (AFAIK) not built into the Board software.

 It must be all the snark in the air.

While a nice glib response, it doesn’t reflect the reality of human nature.

Weird, I don’t remember asking for a popularity feature. We already have polls, but I think you already knew that.

With this being such a high-minded board I think the debaters and commentators are perfectly capable of refuting a argument who’s supporting facts are based “number of thanks”. That said, with the number of strawmen propped up in this thread maybe I’m over-estimating our skills.

No, it’s not germane. No point in continuing the hijack. I shouldn’t have mentioned it.

So, I take it there is no real difference, and you just wanted to score some points with buzzspeak, then.
