Saying that those comments, which have been cited dozens of times, do not sound like bigoted statements is just about the dumbest things I’ve heard from you yet.
Just stepping in to ask a few questions.
First of all, can we all agree that it’s most unlikely in this day and age for anyone in the public eye to make a statement like “I am a racist” ?
Can we also agree that proof of someone’s thoughts are inherently difficult to come by?
we can only make presumptions based on their outer actions and words, and unless we’re in that person’s private life, these actions and words will be part of the public part of their life?
I think, given those standards, that it’d be damn near impossible to prove either that the person was or was not a racist at heart. After all, having diverse people in their work place etc can either be proof that they aren’t racist, or proof that they are and merely have some for show.
I think it can be argued that some one has made comments that can be seen as showing some bigoted thoughts. Certainly Rush has opened himself up to those charges. However, no one here, though, can possibly claim to know what’s in his heart and mind.
Sounds about right to me, Wring.
Sounds like we’re edging into the realm of thoughtcrime. It’s not that Rush is demonstrably a bigot, but that we suspect that in his heart of hearts that he may be. And why take a chance?
Under the spreading chestnut tree, I sold you and you sold me . . .
And right now Rush Limbaugh is laughing at all of you from atop his big fat mountain of money. It’s funny really.
Provide context for his supposedly-racist comments, and then maybe I’ll give them a tenth of the consideration that psychotic, foaming-at-the-mouth Anti-Rushies seem to give in the midst of their masturbatory fits of mudslinging.
The “Bone in your nose” comment has yet to be proven, according to Snopes.
Anything else you’d like to present as fact without any evidence, guys? The only thing you can prove is that he hates liberals, he used to be fat, and he’s under investigation for drugs. That’s it. Anything else is bullshit at this point.
Frankly Airman, it never occured to me to think FAIR would print unsubstantiated quotes. It’s just stupid.
At any rate, I’d like a transcript or a file with the actual sound bite.
Fair saying “he once said…” is not a good standard of evidence for a reasonable person.
Otherwise we can just say “Jack Batty once said…” and label him a bigot by his own standards.
For what it’s worth:
Well, I hate Rush Limbaugh for the same reason I hate Michael Moore: I think he’s an unctuous swine. Just my opinion. I could be wrong, but I’m not.
Throughout this entire, sordid affair, I’ve come to one inescapable conclusion. Here it is…(ahem)
Only white men on conservative radio and/or television are remotely qualified to speak about the plight and/or status of black people.
Thank you.
Why, yes, Blassie, only conservative mouthpieces have anything remotely resembling an objective opinion on anything ethical or moral regarding society. Didn’t you know that they have the copyright on morality in this country and everyone else is a hapless libertine? Did the Reagan Revolution and all its opportunistic hangers-on? No wait, champions, yes indeed champions of righteousness! teach you anything?
Lessons to be learned:
If you think for yourself, you’re a rebel.
Limited, provicial views are, in fact, laws of nature, especially if you find enough people to agree with you.
Nobody invoking God in the cause of Law and Order, the American Way, and Truth can possibly be mistaken, especially if they beat that drum until it’s broken.
Negroes and other “coloreds” are only members of our society on a probationary basis; they must adhere to the above axioms, and be grateful for the largesse shown them.
Disclaimer: the above was satire of the Right, or some segments thereof. It was not intended as a slight to any one particular person or their views. It was, in fact, a rather bitter expression of my own contempt for certain views expressed by some Right Wingers that seem devoid of thought or compassion. If it comforts any Conservatives out there, I can slag the Leftist wing of U.S. politics, and commentary, just as hard. Guess that’s what makes me a “Centrist.”
Hot off the press, it’s George W Bush’s take on the whole flap:
