If a black person made the same exact tirade? I’d be confused as hell, but I’d probably chalk it up to extreme stupidity and not racism.

He’s not a liberal, and I wouldn’t give a crap because I can come up with my own opinions.

> For all intents and purposes, Limbaugh was a minority, non-voting partner. He probably could have kept his involvement fairly quiet but he chose not to. Why was that?

He doesn’t know how. But the “minority partner” thing was not that clear: the group said he’d be a minority partner, but didn’t give any idea what kind of a stake he might own, and Rush said he and Checketts would be “running the team.” He may have just been inflating his potential role, but I don’t think the specifics were ever defined.

Can we kill this meme once and for all? Yes, a Black person can be racist, prejudiced, and bigoted towards Black people. We live in a society that vilifies Black people and exalts Whites - proven time and time again starting with Kenneth Clark’s famed “white doll, black doll” experiment. Some Black people internalize these messages, see themselves as different than the commonly held stereotypes of lazy and ignorant, and do their damnedest to dissociate themselves from “blackness.”

Some have cripplingly low self-esteem and think the stereotype applies to them, and hate themselves as well.

This shouldn’t be that surprising. It happens with some women, gay people, and even White people who are immersed in Black contexts (there the message is often reversed).

Mr. Limburger was refused entry by a group of ultra conservatives who just wanted his financial contribution. If he shut up he would still be in. He was causing the consortium grief and they didn’t need it. They were just trying to buy up a team. The NFL owners are an ultra conservative group of extremely rich people. They don’t need a deal to be troubled over Rush. These are huge financial transactions, between billionaires. They don’t want trouble over unimportant issues.

That is not my point. I agree with you on this point. But, you must ask yourself if a particular statement is racist just because it was uttered by a white person. For instance, I don’t think anyone would consider Bill Cosby racists against blacks but if a white person had said what he has said…well there career would be over and they would be shunned from society. Same point but different color.

They’re not _ultra_ conservative. Most are conservative, and they donate more money to Republicans, but some are fairly liberal: see Dan Rooney, who helped Obama win Pennsylvania and is now Obama’s ambassador to Ireland (and in an interesting twist has a son serving in Congress as a Republican).

Either way, they’re certainly not a bunch of liberals.

I wouldn’t even necessarily root against St. Louis on that basis. On the other hand, since I happen to think that Mr. Limbaugh is a raging asshole and a cancer upon our fair nation, I find I’m not all busted up that his partners-to-be decided to uninvite him to the party.
>
> There, I’m pretty sure that at least part of the foregoing agrees with **yorick** ’s sentiments.

Well you must be skimming over my posts or you would have realized what I was saying in the post you quoted. It really wasn’t that difficult to understand. And, personally, I don’t care if you agree with me or anyone else on this board.

As an aside, I don’t care if Limbaugh got to own the Rams or not. What upsets me is the outrage from the race hucksters. I also don’t care that Limbaugh’s partners dropped him…any smart business man would have done the same. In addition, I can completely understand the NFL having reservations about the attention that Rush would bring.

You’re avoiding or misunderstanding here. The statement is not racist “just because it was uttered by a white person.” If an Asian man said the same thing it would still show the same prejudice against black people. The fact that it would sound different coming from a black person does not make it un-racist.

Unless the speaker was on talk radio, in which case millions of people (almost all of them white) would clap and cheer.

He still may end up as a ‘minority partner’. I am unsure of how much input the owners association gets in regard to who ‘buys in’ after the purchase.

The majority owners currently wishing to purchase the team could still buy the Rams and Rush could buy back in after the sale.

My only question is why on earth would anyone want to buy the RAMS?

The NFL owners would still have to approve Rush’s buy-in, so that won’t happen.

If you’re rich and/or like football, it’s a hell of a status symbol. There are only a few NFL teams.

Yeah, and since none of the NFL teams are for sale, Rush is shooting for a college team.

**Really** , how much (if there is a limit) of a small percentage do the owners get to ratify?
Is it any amount?

I have seen 10% as a number that had to have owner approval but I can’t find anything else.

The tirade was about player behavior in general…nothing to do with race. The one sentence in question would not have confused anyone if uttered by a black person.

You mean is is not a nutty far-left loon. He is liberal and I brought up his opinion only to show that a black person who is ideologically opposed to Limbaugh can see through this bullshit. Incidentally, he was arguing exactly this point last night. The black radio host that he was sparring with told Juan “It’s okay, you can go back to the porch”

IIRC, any amount unless the transfer of ownership occurs as a result of inheritance (or seizure of assets due to bankruptcy or somesuch).

It takes a 3/4 majority of the owners (or 24, at present) to approve.

What is your point…other than you think Rush is racist there are millions of racist whites out there rooting against anyone black? What Cosby said was not racist regardless of whose mouth it came from. I’m starting to see exactly where you are coming from.

> There is no need to parse. I can tell you the entire first part (before Kanye West) is Rush being a smart ass. He is obviously referencing a Newsweek cover and the idea of a post-racial America under Obama. He uses quite a bit of humor in his show and, unless you can hear it, it can be made to look as though he is being serious.

Nice dodge.

Clearly most people here are not seeing what Limbaugh said as just joking around. That he was, in fact, mocking the notion that the fight had any racists overtones. That such a notion was absurd as implied by his sarcasm.

I see nothing of the sort coming from Limbaugh there. I see race baiting purse and simple. Indeed it is overt.

So I am asking you to parse what he said as you see it. Show me how I am wrong with more than an implication that my assessment is defective because I just can’t hear it.

Otherwise I assume you’ve got nothing. You just “hear it” while the rest of us can’t. Most of the people in this thread are just lack sufficient reading comprehension skills to understand Rush is just being a joker here and is mocking the notion that race was part of the fight on that bus. :dubious:

How hypocrtical of Rush to blame everyone but himself for his failure here. I thought he was all about “perosnal responsibility” and raging against “the culture of victimhood”?
