Limbaugh's Bid to Buy the St. Louis Rams

Was it strictly along party lines. Did all Democrats support it and All Republicans vote against it.

My apologies. I was thinking of Presidents. My brush was too broad.

Yeah, but I wonder about this. The NFL is not a club. It’s a business. The Boy Scouts is not about making money, the NFL is. So, I wonder if business discrimination comes into play, and if free association does not. IANAL.

Frankly, the legalities are the least important.

What he have here is a smear campaign. A false accusation of racism founded on false quotations creates a controversy to prevent a figure in business dealings. Likely these accusations are motivated by politics.

Like the Mcnabb thing before it, and the Bush National Guard thing before that, and FAIR before that, it is totally despicable and no right-minded person should support it in any way. The people doing it should suffer major consequences.

I believe there is a vast media left wing conspiracy that goes after conservatives/Republicans and supports liberals Democrats and I find it very scary, and evil.

This is just evasive.

So you think it’s possible that President Obama had something to do with Limbaugh getting dumped by his investmenbt group.

He DOESN’T define it. He just spouts it.

It’s a verbatim quote from Limbaugh. I don’t think it’s particularly hard to understand. Are there any words you need help with?

Hilarious. Now I get it. You’re winding us up. You had me going there for a second.

What on earth do you possibly think I’m evading? It seems stupid and inconsequential and has nothing to do with what we’re talking about? Why are you obsessed with it?

Fine. Since it seems to be very important to you, let me go back and examine it:

Oh for Chrissake, your link doesn’t work:

I went back two pages looking for your earlier “upthread” link.

Give me the link.

Try it now.

Ok. The quote is excerpted from Rush’s Thursday show. I don’t know what he means from the excerpt. Let’s go find Thursday’s transcript, read it, and see what he means.

I must have missed something, is Rush being prosecuted for hate speech? Are his rights being denied? All that happened was a conservative group of investors found out Rush’s anti black stances made it possible they would not get the team. So they dumped him. If his rights were taken away it was by a gutless band of conservatives who did not want to fight for him to stay in the consortium. What exactly did the liberals do? They said Rush is a bigot. No news flash there. He became a liability and the conservatives replaced him. Poor Rushie.

Yes, of course! Conspiracy! Yes, that must be it, otherwise a center-right country could not have turned its back on the revealed Truth, only a malefic conspiracy can explain such an unnatural turn of events! Roger Ailes and Rupert Murdoch are in on it, of course, they are laboring mightily to make the conservative position look as ridiculous as a High Mass conducted by Pee-Wee Herman! Its coming clearer now!

Why, who could watch Rachel Maddow, of the swan’s neck and razor sharp wit, who could hear her girlish chuckle as she sinks her harpoon, who could hear that and not realize that she is the very heart of darkness manifest!

So is Obama the spider at the center of the web, or is it Dennis “Phantom Menace” Kucinich?

Look, pal, if these people look like an evil conspiracy to you, you must totally lose your shit when they re-broadcast the Grinch That Stole Christmas. These people don’t hatch plots, they hatch free-range chickens, and Birkenstock don’t make jackboots.

Relax. Get a nice cup chamomile tea, take your shoes off, read a little P.G. Wodehouse. If the Bushiviks couldn’t totally destroy our country, we are, as a nation, ten foot tall and bulletproof. Nothing to be afraid of, we’re right, you’re wrong, and you’ll get over it.

Ok, Dio, I went to Rush’s website and read the transcripts for the first two segments of rush’s show.

My first observation is that the article doesn’t do a good job providing context, and is misleading as it takes quotes from two different segments with two different subjects and puts those quotes together as if they are a contiguous.

In the first segment, Rush is providing background that he can now provide having been thrown ou of the group. Apparently, an Nda was violated in revealing Rush’ potential ownership. Apparently Soros replaced The group’s previous 30% owner. Rush makes a case and a prediction about collective bargaining and the player’s asociation, and speculates about greater control and involvement by government in business, citing some interesting issues in his business deal to support it.

But no, contrary to your original question, he does not explicitly blame Obama.
I hope that was worth it for you.

The right-wing American commentator Rush Limbaugh has blamed the National Football League Players Association, the media and “race hustlers”, such as Al Sharpton, for his being ousted from a bid to purchase the St Louis Rams.
Limbaugh was quoted on Bloomberg.com as having said on his talk radio show that unfair media coverage and pressure from Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, two black clergyman and civil-rights leaders whom he called “race hustlers”, had contributed to the failure of his interest in the Rams.

“So Much for the Post-Racial America. That’s how Rush treats people — in the Martin Luther King aspiration that the content of one’s character is what matters, not the color of one’s skin. Yet, in the media narrative, he’s somehow the one who’s got a race issue — and the guys who trade on race, live and breathe it 24/7, are held up as our public conscience.”

As I explained on my radio show, this spectacle is bigger than I am on several levels. There is a contempt in the news business, including the sportswriter community, for conservatives that reflects the blind hatred espoused by Messrs. Sharpton and Jackson. “Racism” is too often their sledgehammer. And it is being used to try to keep citizens who don’t share the left’s agenda from participating in the full array of opportunities this nation otherwise affords each of us. It was on display many years ago in an effort to smear Clarence Thomas with racist stereotypes and keep him off the Supreme Court. More recently, it was employed against patriotic citizens who attended town-hall meetings and tea-party protests.

These intimidation tactics are working and spreading, and they are a blight on our society.

This is, at the very best, a questionable assertion.

And, for the record, if you want to discuss actual examples of politicians trying to get involved with a bid to own a sports team to push out someone who doesn’t share their ideology, Soros is a pretty good example.

Anyone want to point to similar on-the-record statements by democratic politicians regarding Limbaugh? I haven’t seen any.

Ooooo. Damning sentence fragments without context. Weee.

Liberal Prosecutors Let Known Drug Offender Walk Free

MIAMI, April 28 2006

(DD News Service) - Liberal State prosecutors today made a plea bargain deal on numerous narcotics charges with lawyers acting for known drug addict Rush “Big Pharma” Limbaugh. The 450 pound broadcaster had been caught red-handed buying thousands of Oxycontin pills, known as “Hillbilly Heroin”, to feed his enormous criminal drug addiction.

Outraged

Interviewed at a local all-you-can-eat Bar-B-Q Ribs restaurant after his release, Limbaugh expressed his outrage at how liberals and activist judges were undermining the system of law and order in America. “I’m outraged that I haven’t been locked up for this”, said Limbaugh between mouthfuls.

“There are teenagers being locked up for life for testing positive for marijuana in Texas yet I can eat over 2000 Hillbilly Heroin pills in a six month period, pills that I bought illegally through criminal drug dealers, and I’m allowed a plea bargain provided I continue my ‘treatment’, which we all know is not the way to treat drug addicts. Only a prison sentence can do that,” Limbaugh said.

Hypocrisy

Limbaugh promised to address the “morally depraved decision by the liberal activist judges who control our revolving-door so-called system of justice” in his next radio show. “I’m going to expose their hypocrisy” said Limbaugh, adding "do you know a good hookup for ‘little blues’? Someone who can do quantity? "

Tell you what, Scylla, you take that last “out of context fragment” and you make up, out of whole cloth, imagination runs wild…you make up a context that makes that look good. Or even acceptable. Doesn’t have to match the real context at all. (Which is good for you, because the actual context won’t help you in the slightest.)

“Out of context”, my ass. You got nothin’.

Upon preview: By which I mean this gem:

Yeah, give us some context on that. Explain away the “Somali community organizers”, you do that.

No. I’ll leave the imaginative fabrications to you. How about a link to the context so we can see the facts?

You know, if it’s an actual quote. Forgive my suspicion, but there seems to be a lot of making stuff up going on.

Haven’t you been reading? Every hateful thing Rush says is “sarcasm.” He’s actually Steven Colbert in deeper cover.

http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/site_041409/content/01125110.guest.html

His website. Take whatever comfort you can. Theres a bunch of other stuff there that is merely repulsive, not puke-yer-guts-out disgusting, just repulsive.

Thanks for the context 'Luce.

It’s good context. Rush’s argument seems to be that Bush would have been pretty harshly criticized in similar circumstances for cowboy tactics and mudering a bunch of starving hapless teenagers.

The quote you so object is being ironic in this theme.

I think Obama made the right call. Rush would have supported Bush in that circumstance, Obama deserved the support. I would prefer Rush not making political hay over this as I think supporting the president in making the right call overrides the need to point out the hypocrisy of the media and the left in their double standards, but that’s my opinion.

So no, I see nothing racially objectionable in Rush’s comment in context

Presented without comment.
