After my first taste, I actually threw the entire brick out my third floor window, as I couldn’t stand to have the stuff near me. And lemme tell you, that taste lingers on your tongue. It isn’t often that you find a food product which makes you long for the sweet scent of ammonia.

I’m trying to picture how one would intentionally get close enough to roadkill to smell it.
When I lived in Cincinnati a neighbor traditionally ate Limburger cheese and a Blind Robin at New Years. The first year I thought I’d barf before I got the cheese down. The next year, it was in a sandwich and one of the best cheese sandwiches I’ve ever eaten. I don’t remember if I ate any of the Blind Robin (a smoked fish).

Something just occurred to me.
How easy is it for your people to GET Limburger cheese?
In New York City, it’s not something you come across in the supermarket. And the fancy-schmancy cheese shops offer Irish Cheddars and boutique farmers’ Chevres and Venezuelian Beaver Cheese, but are hard put to offer something as prosaic as Limburger.
If I want it, I have to travel all the way up to the old German-American neighborhood of Yorkville on the upper east side of Manhattan. Schaller & Weber, on 2nd Aveune, carries the stuff, and while I’m there I can stock up on bauenwurst and those dense greasy loaves of Pumpernickel.
Do you people encounter Limburger on a regular basis? If so, where are you ethno-geographically?
I’ve seen it in general supermarkets here in South East Florida, North or Ft. Lauderdale. Just saw it yesterday at Albertsons (made me think of this thread) and it was sold at a Winn Dixie I used to work at while going to college.
They’re selling a few different brands of Limburger at the Cub Foods in Minneapolis. A brick of it about size of a stick of butter costs about $3.50.

In the small midwest college town where I live, it’s available at a speciality grocer that caters to the foreign students, but a supermarket also has the Kraft brand. It comes in a jar, and I believe it’s processed cheese.:eek:
