> **EddyTeddyFreddy** : Well, actually, if you don’t go after SA with intent to maim from the start, he will try to respond to you with an equally thoughtful tone.

That has been my experience totally. It is because I believe him to be sincere and passionate about his convictions that I am interested in what he has to say. He conveys a lot about how he _feels_.

(It just occured to me that I could be describing both **Starving Artist** and Michael Moore.)

> [@](#):
>
> **Starving Artist** : So they finally get enough upon hearing her arrogant and condescending preachings and vent their pent up fear and anger by storming out and tearing up posters.

Please explain what it was that sounded like “arrogant and condescending preachings” to you. She gave her opinion that Michael Moore is a patriot and recommended his movie. There was no put-down of anyone.

Why is their fear and anger pent up? What are they afraid of? What are they angry about?

> [@](#):

> **SA** : As it is, we on the right feel that the left has an unfair advantage in espousing its point of view, and perhaps even appearing to be the accepted and predominate way of thinking, due to the predominance of the liberal position in the news media, Hollywood, and the entertainment industry in general.

My version (sort of): As it is, we on the left feel that the right as an unfair advantage in espousing its point of view, and perhaps even appearing to be the accepted and predominate way of thinking, due to the predominance of the conservative position in talk radio, talk television, network broadcasting, CNN, the Executive Branch of the federal government, the Legislative Branch of the federal government, and the Supreme Court.

Actually, I accept the advantage that the right has at the moment and I certainly don’t speak for the left. Just myself.

Brace yourself. There are other documentaries that will be released between now and the election.

I have always made it a point to be familiar with at least some of the material presented by "the other side – starting with Goldwater and Buckley in the 1960’s. I have never regretted it.

It is my own belief that _Fahrenheit 9/11_ is propaganda, but _truthful_ nevertheless. One does not exclude the other.

(sigh…)

I have to bump/re-pit this because I’ve had _Blue Bayou_ fucking STUCK in my head since I first read the news 11am Tuesday morning, as it is (at least it has been) one of my two favorite LR songs. The other is _Stoney End_ of course.

Please…someone make it stop…

Her cover of _Poor, Poor, Pitiful Me_, by the late Master, Warren Z.? Is that better now?

We’re off to see the Wizard, the wonderful Wizard of Oz…

(one of those songs that you think you know the lyrics to until you start singing it, then it gets all messed up in your head)

> That’s exactly, precisely, right. How am I doing so far, evidence-wise? I think if this thread were SBC Park there would be a kayakers fighting over my ball.
>
> Because I have acquired the basic skill of knowing how to read an newspaper article critically. Things which are said directly to a reporter are reasonably likely to have actually been said. Things said to a reporter about things which have happened are less likely to have actually happened – there’s a reason reporters say things like ‘stuff happened,’ “said casino spokeswoman Sara Gorgon”’ instead of just saying ‘stuff happened.’ “A statement issued by…” is half-likely to be a load of crap without corroborating evidence. In particular, statements issued by managements, governments and others with PR people have a high propensity to contain exaggeration.
>
> I will note one possible error: Robert Earl and the Planet Hollywood group do not yet have a license to operate the Aladdin. I don’t know to what extent Mr. Timmons and the current management of the casino have been cooperating or not with the incoming team (though I know that Planet Hollywood people like Mike Mecca have been crawling all over the place). Ergo, I also don’t know to what extent current Aladdin management might have had in any potential coming reconciliation – but damn, did I call that one anyway or what?

was gonna just let this lie, but since someone else bumped it - the point you neatly avoided was that you apparently trusted the newstory wrt the quote, **which includes** interpretation of the words. certainly you understand the concept of sarcasm. YOu assumed that the report was totally accurate (ie not embelishing or leavin out obvious verbal or vocal cues that she was being sarcastic for example), while insisting that everything else was suspect.

It seems inconsistent to me that youd assume the report was totally spin free wrt the quote, yet not rearding actions.

I heard that didn’t say that someone in the audience at her show being a Republican or a fundamentalist bothered her, she said that when she sees a show and she knows that the performer is, it can make it less enjoyable. And for that reason she didn’t want to make her dedication a major part of her show–just a short bit at the end.

Here is an interesting article from one of the Tucson papers (my hometown and Linda’s) [Reports of casino incident not accurate, Ronstadt says](http://www.tucsoncitizen.com/breaking/072104ronsdadt.html)

That’s the summary story. Before this thread goes away completely, here’s a link to the full interview.

[http://www.tucsoncitizen.com/index.php?page=local&story\_id=072204ronstadt\_transcript&page\_number=0](http://www.tucsoncitizen.com/index.php?page=local&story_id=072204ronstadt_transcript&page_number=0)

It’s 5 pages, but 95% of it is about the Las Vegas brouhaha, Michael Moore and politics. It’s a good read. Read it before it disappears into the subscriber-only archives.

I especially liked this bit:

> [@](#):
>
> Citizen: What do you think the role of the celebrity should be?
>
> LR: I think they should try to get people to think. I think they need to bring information to the public. The news has been completely hijacked. The American media has been completely hijacked by corporate interests. The news is so biased and we’ve got to get it through any way that we can.
>
> Now I don’t think somebody should take my word. Because I’m a singer doesn’t necessarily make me an expert in world politics, though I’m well read. But I think my obligation at this point is to try to steer people into just thinking. These issue have to be brought up because people aren’t even thinking about it. They’re just watching television and being lulled to sleep. They have to get their faces up out of their mashed potatoes and learn the issues.
>
> If after you’ve informed yourself you still don’t agree with me, great, but know what you’re talking about.
>
> I think the Aladdin thought by getting this out they could spin it and the spin backfired because the more it looked like they had treated me meanly, the more people came to my defense. In fact it wasn’t mayhem like they described. The show has been the same every night and I’ve gotten exactly the same response every night. We’ve been out since May and I think we have about five more shows to go. This has been fine for us. It gives us the burst of energy we need to get over the finish line.
>
> Bill O’Reiley invited me to come on his show. I would go on his show if I could go on with Al Franken and Michael Moore.
