Wait, where did **lorene** say that she’s happy that gay marriage is illegal? I don’t see how **lorene** telling **lindseybluth** that breastfeeding is legally protected is evidence of **lorene’s** secret life as part of the Phelps retinue. This is the second time I’ve seen **lindsey** accuse **lorene** of some form of bigotry with no evidence-if we go back to page 1, wasn’t she accusing **lorene** of being prejudiced against biracial children because **lorene** mocked her for juxtaposing “this took place in wealthy suburb full of hoity-toity people” against “Medicaid trainwreck?” I’m just saying that it seems like calling someone a racist in fora outside of BBQ Pit is considered an insult, yet **lindsey** basically feels comfortable accusing people of bigotry left and right. ---

You seem to be under this impression that you’re wealthier and more educated than the majority of people on this board. I’ve been here 10 years so I know that **you with the face** has a doctorate in the sciences. Shit, I myself know more than 10 people offhand who’ve done volunteer work in war-torn/poor developing nations, and my only medical connections are through my family. These simply aren’t unique experiences-the vast majority of us who attended colleges know people who do this type of work, or have done it ourselves. You’ve also been almost hilariously rude to **China Guy** and **WordMan** , both of whom I know to meet the standards by which you seem to deem people Worthy or Not Worthy. I would take a moment to consider why you come here for “non social interaction” since you think you’re smarter, more educated and interesting than the vast majority of posters. ---

I’ve done work in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Ethiopia, **lindsay** , and I have friends who have spent months in Mozambique, Kenya, Malawi, Tanzania, and South Africa, doing everything from HIV surveys to aflatoxin exposure assessments. So clearly, our perspectives on Africa and what makes someone a nutcase is so radically different that you might as well be talking to me in pig latin Chinese right now. But an AIDS clinic in _Mauritius_? Bwhahaha! An ER doc at Johns Hopkins probably has more to worry about. You know this right? ---

Two of my cousins (my cousin and her husband, actually) are Doctors without Boarders doctors. Two former students of mine (married) work in rural Latin America as traveling nurses. My niece is a primate researcher who spends a lot of time on expedition in Africa. You’re not the only person who knows people who do remarkable things. ---

Dammit: Borders not Boarders. :smack: ETA: with respect to breastfeeding, it’s my experience that more people are uncomfortable with the idea than the reality of public breastfeeding. In reality, often you can sitting next to a woman breastfeeding and not realize because it just looks like cuddling the baby it or then realize it’s not a big deal. ---

Okay actually it was mostly malaria Anyways, I find your reaction surprising because through a fairly random twist of fate I ended up spending some time hobnobbing with other Children of Wealth who pretty much went to Ivies or those small Northeastern Liberal Arts equivalents. Anyways, they were always all falling all over themselves to go do stuff in Africa or South America or Asia. It was kind of a contest to see who could do the most good in the most dangerous/isolated parts of the world. It grew very tiresome, very quickly. ---
