Not sure if this qualifies but…oh, heck, I’ve been meaning to get this off my chest for so long, I’m putting it here. **Big Time** , by Peter Gabriel. Supposedly…so I’ve heard…a mockery of 80’s materalistic values. (Someone said it was about Phil Collins, but I find that unlikely.) Money, money, money. Wretched excess. Shallowness. I couldn’t help but notice, however, a number of things suspiciously missing: - Drug abuse - An absolutely horrible, miserable, doomed, all-the-wrong-reasons marriage - Badly raised children out of wedlock and/or the doomed marriage - Unbelievably stupid petty crime - Unbelievably stupid not-so-petty crime - Mobs of paid-off sycophants - Did I mention drug abuse? - Publicly blathering mind-blowingly offensive/dirty/shocking statments in public - Lawsuits - Incredibly wrongheaded, money-draining “investments” and “business ventures” - Taking up criminal/insane/bass-ackwards causes And so on. Gabriel’s picture of conspicuous extravagance wouldn’t amount to a decent Spring Break for most big names these days. And I also couldn’t help but notice that although this song wasn’t _meant_ to be autobiographical, pretty much everything in it eventually came true for him. Certainly gives _me_ a smile. 🙂 ---
