Mine is a satellite composite picture of our planet earth at night, from space. The first version was this [“Astronomy Picture of the Day” from 27 November 2000](http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/image/0011/earthlights2_dmsp_big.jpg) ([link to the article](http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap001127.html)). I kept it that way for many years until NASA rolled out [this update from 05 December 2012](http://www.nasa.gov/images/content/712130main_8246931247_e60f3c09fb_o.jpg) ([link to that article](http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/NPP/news/earth-at-night.html)). I like seeing things such as the mouth of the Nile, in Egypt. ---

She was going to a pirate-themed birthday party, but thought pirates were too scary, so she wanted to dress up like a great white shark instead. A NICE SHARK, as she helpfully labeled the picture. ---

[Rhea](http://www.jpl.nasa.gov/images/cassini/20130311/rhea20130311-43.jpg), one of the moons of Saturn that a NASA spacecraft snapped a picture of a few months ago. In fact, my last few have been NASA pictures. I think my last two were just pictures of the Martian surface from Curiosity. ---

Darth Vader died last Sunday. So did Mufasa, Terminator, half the incarnations of James Bond, Clint Eastwood… Well, OK, it’s [the guy who dubbed them for Spain](http://desmotivaciones.es/655918/Constantino-Romero), but damn. My current background pic honors the best-known name in Spanish voiceovers and dubbing, as well as a radio host of long standing. **Gagundathar** , that picture is beautiful. ---

I don’t change mine much, as the icons on top take away any fun in that. (And arranging it where the icons aren’t on top is a pain and slows down older computers.) The default stuff is usually much more designed to be covered up. So I use the default that came with my dad’s eMachine, (seen in [this pic](http://www.enviapacuba.com/images/Computers/Desktops/ACER01a.jpg)) for my account on his computer (as does he), and the Windows XP “[Prairie Wind](http://savepic.net/564725.png)” on my computers (tiled as in that image). I only personalize the colors. ---

She still loves lizards but now at 13 she doesn’t pretend to be them anymore ☹ ---

I don’t bother with desktop backgrounds; I’ve always got windows covering them, so why bother?
