I sincerely wish President-Elect Obama nothing but the best, and I completely get the connection that is being made but ā€“ I have to say I find the ā€œObama as the next Lincolnā€ thing a bit unsettling. Things didnā€™t go all that well for President Lincoln. Couldnā€™t we compare the President-Elect to a statesman who did great things, lived to be 100, and died in his bed? ---

I donā€™t think theyā€™re calling Obama the next Lincoln- just suggesting that he fulfills some of Lincolnā€™s best ideals. I heard Corey Booker just now talking about Obamaā€™s appeal to our ā€œbetter angels,ā€ and if youā€™d been at my place last night I would have bet you money that Obama was going to invoke the phrase ā€œwith malice toward none, with charity for allā€ in his speech last night. ---

Well, that, unfortunately, would be **none** of them. Jerry Fordā€™s come the closest to being 100 (falling some 7 or so years short of the mark, IIRC), and Iā€™m not sure how many people besides Nixon would say he did ā€œgreatā€ things. šŸ˜‰ ---

[Clay Bennett](http://www.timesfreepress.com/news/2008/nov/05/presidency/?editorialcartoons) is as elegant as he always is. I quite like [this](http://www.gocomics.com/clayjones), just stylistically. [This](http://www.gocomics.com/jackohman) gets points for creativity; I havenā€™t seen many which are thematically similar. And I believe [this](http://www.gocomics.com/mikeluckovich) nicely sums up how Obama managed to actually win. For once, I actually really like Oliphantā€™s [work](http://www.gocomics.com/patoliphant). I, uh, harbor a secret passion for editorial cartoons. ---

There are some in the win series that surprised me with their level of disillusionment (yes, Iā€™m a permanent optimist), but most of them are celebratory.
