# Linking and quoting on the SDMB

Can anyone tell my, button by button, how to snip qoutes into a post and hyperlink to other sites/posts? I’m sure I could eventually figure it out, but I don’t want to make unnecessary posts trying it.

I just clicked on the little quote box on the bottom to the right of your message. Click on the box that says http that is located just above this reply box. I think there is more info in ATMB forum. Also you can practice post there.[the http box](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=2)

To quote, simply click the “quote” button immediately following the post that you wish to quote. The relevant code and text will be placed into the reply automatically.
To insert a link, from the full reply page, simply click the button which says “http://” and follow the steps. You can also type [url=http://www.websiteaddress.com] this is a link [/url] without the spaces, and that will turn the words in the middle into a link to whatever website address you insert.
And remember that no one is going to bludgeon you if you foul up some coding. Even those of us who know BB code occasionally make typos and blunders. Use the preview function and just try it out and see what happens.
