If one is writing a C program in a Linux environment on IBM-compatible PC, how does one control the 8250-compatible COM port?

Thanks,

This question would probably get more responses at a linux related forum. Might I suggest the OS forum at [anandforums.gisystech.com](http://anandforums.gisystech.com) ?

And my guess is that there is a special device in the /dev directory.

**Baraqiyal** , HTML has been disabled on this board. You have to use [UBB coding](http://boards.straightdope.com/ubb/ubbcode.html) to make links.
