> “Down sprang Caesar, determined to seize the offensive, but before he could do so, Bobby had battled his way through Caesar’s paws, grabbed his mane so stubbornly that he couldn’t move. For the next couple of minutes each struggled and strained for an advantage, but Bobby’s hold was so tenacious that they only succeeded in twisting a little. With the cameras continuing to grind and getting nothing but a little harmless tug of war… Energy spent, the exhausted Bobby tried to roll away from Caesar, but Caesar’s hold now was as firm as Bobby’s which had been on his mane. Seeing this turn in affairs, I dashed into the cage. Already Caesar’s jaws had crunched Bobby’s neck and when I got there Caesar was shaking Bobby’s limp, bloody head and throat from side to side. Bobby’s eyes were turning starey. He was dead and it was only two minutes since I was keenly sorry that I had done it, but in thinking it over I became convinced that my part had been negligible. The lion is frequently the superior; he doubtless would have been the winner in this case no matter what I had done.”

> 11. The lion also is protected around the neck by the heavy mane, which is an advantage. There is one instance I remember where a full grown lion and very large tiger engaged in combat, by unforeseen chance of course. It was when the John O’ Brien Show had its winter quarters in Philadelphia and I was connected with it. “A lion and a tiger were in a compartment cage, with a partition between. In some manner this partition was battered down in the night and the two big fellow’s got together. They had probably been issuing challenges to each other and promising what they would do to one another if the chance came. When morning arrived we found the two in the lion’s cage, the tiger dead and the lion all chew and clawed to pieces, but still full of fight.”

> NEW YORK. Nov. 2. -Tradition that the tiger is a better animal then the lion in a fight has been disproved as Sr. Nicholas Garden, where one of the biggest striped denizens of the Bengal jungles is suffering from rips and tears inflicted upon him by one of the late king of the South Africa forests. The press agent did not give this story out. Probably he would lose his job if he had, for Bostock is careful to suppress any news tending to show that his animals ever exhibit sanguinary instincts when in the arena. The two big cats in question were brought together several days ago to become familiarized with each other for purposes of a contemplated act in the show ring. The tiger walked nervously up to the lion and began rubbing his nose over the latter’s haunches. A low growl was the response. But when the tiger inserted his teeth in the lion’s mane, Leo uttered a roar, unmasked his ivories and crouched. The tiger retreated a few feet and then sprang high in the air, intending to come down on the lion. But Leo deftly side-stepped and when the tiger alighted he grabbed it by the head. A twisting of the teeth and a large section of the tiger’s face, including one eye, was gone. The trainers and attendants now tried to separate the beasts, which for several minutes rolled over and over each other, snarling, roaring, biting and scratching. Finally they were separated. The tiger, mutilated and bleeding, cowered in a corner, while the lion was defiant in another.

> -My teammates and I were transporting a male African Lion into a cage neighboring a Bengal Tigers cage in Kenya. There was a small opening in between the two cages for intermingling of neighboring animals. It was supposed to be closed at the time but someone forgot to close it. The lion sprang from the transportation container through the opening and mauled the tiger of similar size. We tranquilized the lion but it was too late. Two days later, the tiger died due to fatal wounds. It was a very one sided fight where the lion spent much time chasing the tiger.

> 57. But to get back to the lions and tigers, apparently it is a very hard thing to put lions and tigers together. I read that scientists say that lions have the strongest forelegs of the big cats, and they have a knack to being more ferocious. Even though tigers are heavier and longer, it’s ferocity that determines a winner. Lions have all the equipment of a fighter with huge forelegs, the mane, and the stocky body. Because of the mane the male lion is a poor predator. He however has a fierce desire to defend his territory. They have been known to kill or drive off rhinos. The tiger is nervous around a male lion and cat trainers have said that this has caused problems in zoos and circuses.
> The same trainers have mostly said that the male lion appears to have no fear of the tiger even in a large group of tigers. The big cat trainer Clyde Beatty lost 12 tigers to lions and didn’t lose a single lion. He once had a tiger and lion fighting in a live performance and tried to stop it he couldn’t and the lion went on to maul the tiger to death in front of all these people. He also had a lion he called Sultan the First and he beat ever male tiger he ever faced. There are 3 films that have been made about fights between a male lion and male tiger and in all three the lion won. ‘Lion-Tiger Fight’, 1930’s, Castle Films (16 mm) is a short documentary about a fight between a lion and a tiger which occurred during an expedition to capture some tigers in the Gir region of India (The only place where you can find lions and tigers living together).

> 31’st of March, 1851, In the “Landshuter Zeitung” (“Landshut Newspaper”)
>
> A drama at the Ganges.
>
> I’ll tell of one of these terrible fights, one you wouldn’t see again in a hundred years, a scene of blood and death that forever will haunt my mind. […] The lion and his rival, the tiger, need air and space in great quantity. Here, and only here, are they really able to live and to rule. […] (A long description of lions and tigers and how fierce both of them are, the actual event follows now) A Malayan slave ran towards us and shouted: “Lion! Lion! Down there, at the river! It’s a big, fierce lion!”
>
> “One more reason to take shelter in the house,” continued the colonel. “Come, my friends, take the weapons! The lion is a troublesome guest.”
>
> We closed the house’s doors; the slaves got weapons and guarded the basement. We, to welcome this guest admirably, climbed up to the gallery from which we could overlook the Ganges. An unusually big lion walked haughtily down there, not looking around as he does when he has to fight an opponent, but instead ambling slowly and thoughtfully like a philosopher, he walked there. He stopped from time to time to rest a minute, and then continued majestically his way. Under a magnificent palm, he stopped, turned around two times, and finally lay down in the shadow. This was the rest of a magnificent ruler that had nothing to fear from any adversary. He rested easily, as do those who have made no enemies.
>
> Scarcely ten minutes had the lion lain there, when suddenly, he jumped up as though struck by lightning, roaring very deeply and scratching the ground with both hind legs, as though challenging an adversary. He lowered his head and, in a single bound, jumped at the palm’s stem to look about, to the right and left. Then he jumped down to ground to wait again, and his gaze lingered at one particular spot on the horizon.
>
> “An enemy seems to approach,” the colonel said, “a terrible enemy, if we look at the lion’s reaction. I predict that it will be a fierce fight, and many rich people would pay a great sum to see it if they were here right now.”
>
> “And why,” I asked, “don’t they stage some fights from time to time, if they would pay so much?”
>
> “Because what we have here is very rare. The lion won’t fight against a human but against a fierce animal, one as strong as he himself, such as a rhinoceros, an elephant, or a tiger.”
>
> “A tiger! It’s really a tiger!” one of us shouted pointing a finger at the dangerous beast which jumped in huge leaps towards the lion. It was breathtaking, our eyes wandered from the lion to the tiger and from the tiger to the lion. The lion still was lurking. It was a terrible spectacle and we wagered who will win. Now they stood eyeball to eyeball with each other. They’d seen each other and wouldn’t leave unless one of them was lying dead at the ground. The tiger was unbelievably huge and beautiful with his long black stripes distributed all over his yellowish body. His fearful eyes seemed to burn, his head was lowered. We stood, at the most, 200 feet away. The sun shone brightly, so we could see their every move. I don’t think I have to mention that our hearts were in our mouths. The tiger closed in on the lion, but the lion remained calm. In the latter, we could see the force of the calmness in his powerful position; in the tiger, one could believe to see the violent tension of someone who has the impudence to disrespect a close danger, one who had the will to assault it. We could see a certain twitch in his legs, but he wasn’t about to flee. Did the crouching tiger want to kill the lion? I believe it did, and I admire the royal tiger’s courage, he would rather lie down in a burning furnace than be accused of cowardice!
>
> The lion had not moved at all, but we could see what was happening inside him by looking at his erected mane. From time to time, his countenance suggested a submissive gesture. But he, the king of animals, didn’t want to show any fear, but rather boldness, to his opponent. A duel was now inevitable. For the tiger it may be a glorious day, but for the lion it was certainly a festive day.
>
> With one leap, they could grab, bite, tear each other; with one leap they’d jump over the space of 20 feet that separated them from each other. Then, they leaped! The crash equaled the crash of two ships in a tempest! We could hear the bones breaking under the weight of their terrible paws, we could see chunks of flesh falling to the ground. They made no sound, but their gruff moaning indicated their rage and pain. Neither showed superiority and we wondered who would win. If the lion were to think that he had overpowered the tiger, the latter could earn the victory with a single move, shattering the surprised lion.
>
> The fight now lasted 10 minutes, and suddenly, as if they came to an agreement, both loosened their grip to gain their breath again. It was the motionlessness of the rage, but it was the calmness of the king. A few moments later, an unexpected incident which resurrected the fight took place: The tiger, which saw not only his defeat but also his death, used the moment. While his opponent was licking his wounded hind leg, he leaped 10 feet up the palm’s stem and stayed there. The lion looked around and couldn’t see his foe anymore; he roared, looked upwards, and he jumped at the tiger. But in this position it was impossible to continue the fight. They knew that only one of them would survive. The tiger jumped down and the lion followed him, but his leg caused him to shiver. A long fight wasn’t possible any more. Their claws were blunted, their jaws were tired, and they had lost much blood.
>
> The fighters’ jaws were wedged in each other as they bit at each others’ heads; we could feel the bones crushing. Suddenly the tiger retreated, wavered and fell down. The lion seized him with his terrible paws and it seemed like he wanted to punish the defeated opponent for his resistance.
>
> He didn’t loosen his grip, the merciless king of the forest, the feared lord of the wilderness; he tore the tiger apart, he crushed its skull. Suddenly a crocodile appeared out of the river. It seized the lion at his injured hind leg and dragged him into the water. The only remains of this fight were the dead tiger under the palm and some read streams of blood on the water surface.

I dunno, man. Still looks like they’re totally mouth kissing. Perverts.

Anyhow, I have no doubt this will become a sticky in this forum due to: 1) the number of hits indicating earnest interest on this topic. 2) this topic being one of the most important issues of our times; both modern and ancient… but that goes without saying, and 3) your fastidious, in-depth analysis, on top of providing a lower-than-average (yet a decent amount) of cites of lions fighting and/or making out with tigers.

## Heres another Source that says lions usually defeated tigers in the Roman Arenas..

Decapitating ostriches with crescent-headed arrows was a favorite trick at gladiator battles. The crowds cheered and roared with laughter as the ostrich continued to run around after its head was cut off. Bears usually defeated bulls. Packs of hounds easily dispatched deers. Lions usually defeated tigers. Not even a rhino could penetrate the hide of an elephant.

## Well in true fashion…both has won already, the question is not (who will) win more, its (who has) won more.

Thats the answers I’m looking for. If you ask who will win more…you’ll get a Bias opinion (no matter what)…But if you ask who has won more you can get a account showing who won, then its basically tallying up how many you can find. Even that might be a little trickey, because if a lion fan found a account of a tiger killing a lion, would he present it or conseal it and only show a account he found of a lion killing a tiger? An would a tiger fan find a lion killing a tiger an conseal it as well an only present accounts of tigers killing lions? We wouldent know, now would we?

Thats why its better off if you be 50/50, because we really dont know, but we can speculate of course, an thats the whole purpose of bringing it up…an I found around 30-40 accounts of tigers winning, an 120 of lions winning…am I bias for the lions? Well I’d like to think not, I did state that tigers have almost 40 a Bias person would have said none… but thats all I could find, if you can find more then hey I’ll add them to the list with no probs.

I think he is asking if the lion and tiger were of equal health and bred to the same level of aggression. As a tiger apologist, I am still not seeing if the animals were evenly matched in terms of the health of the animals involved or whether or not the tigers were tricked into a show match that turned ugly behind their back. Common sense says that, since a tiger is bigger and stronger, it should win most of the time. I think there may have been some gambling rigging and general tomfoolery going on with the results shown so far.

I don’t dispute many of the reported facts but I wonder what the outcome would be if you had a lion and tiger both of equal health and trained in the same fighting styles.

More MMA wins have been by knockout they say, so the better striker will still have better chances (assuming similar well-rounded training.)

## I left 12 occaisions of (wild) lions killing (wild) tigers which they mentioned that the tigers were Quote" Un-belivably huge"…what have you brought or you are seeing that can match it? Let alone the 100s of pit fights an captive fights… Tigers do not have an advantage of size because they are too (Similar) I proved that with over 20 Zoologiist that weighed over 50 tigers each in the (wild) an they averaged no bigger than lions some not even getting to 500 pounds an a over-all tiger speices average of 420 pounds (Average), same goes with captive lions an tigers what ever weights the tiger reached so can the lion…I showed that with almost 30…800-900 pound lions, so unless your selecting the match by bias porportions pitting a smaller lion…than stop saying tigers are bigger they are so similar that sometimes the tiger is larger sometimes the lion, I can show you over 50 lions in the wild that passed 270 Kg, with ease so you cannot by-pass weights unless you go by there----\>(Averages) so you cant give your bias opinion an think it should be taken into consideration (which it isint) unless your hand picking the fighters, which I could do the same… Your just trying to act like theres a significant advantage when theres not, trying to alibie B.S (secoundary) sites that hadent even had people that weighed them.

## You dont even enphinsize saying what the tiger is stronger in…sures as hell not there swipes or frontal body power, tigers have stronger back limbs, which aids acrobaitcs an leaping an running speed, while lions have bigger, broader, taller an stronger front limbs which aids powerfuler swipes an frontal wrestling.

## Gamibling an rigging? lol Funny you should bring that up…the tiger side has only 3/15th the amount of accounts yet there percentage has more rigged an gambling bullshit then the lions entire account ratio…like

-The fact that 80% of the tiger wins were of Male tigers killing female lions (as showed)

-Roman Proske Jabbed a steel fork in the lions eye giving the tiger leverage.

-edmunds mengerines lion had no teeth or claws to defend him self.

-The tower of london had 2 wild tigers agianst 1 tamed lion

-Baroda had a fixed fight

## -The conklin circus had tied up the lion an let the tiger cheat.

-

## Dont be making B.S accusuations unless you know what your even talking about, if you want me to act as if the 100 captivity fights dident happen? Thats fine…Phweet, Boom! There gone…now about the 12 occaisions in the (wild) make a come back when you can just present the accounts to match it…because if were tlking just wild accounts now, than its a 10/10 by data unless you cant present a few (wild ones) than thats how it will stay.

## An why or how can that even be possible to train the lion the same way the tiger can fight or in other words train them equally? Thats not possible in the wild, because the tiger is usually solitary, an the lion can live in a Pride as small as 8 to as big as 30, thats why they are better fighters…they are more accustumed to it, they are use to pecking orders, they are the more practiced fighters, everything the tiger does threw territory fights an mating rights so does the lion, yet they do it in much greater quanitys…an they hone in an harnesses all of that within there own Prides, the tiger is just the same as any other big cat, yet lions arnt, their morphology is different, there physiology is built different from all other cat-like structures, there anatomy has something no other cat has a mane, their entire attributes are framed for combat an very little else there liing style is un-like any other cats for they are the only true social big cat or just cat out of all the animaliums of the cat family, it was always constructed that they were mainly war cats, by pretty much every culture that heard an dealt with them, wjhile all the other cats are less than medicore an are primealry just good hunters.

I really like to keep an open mind here, but with the amount an or gestures your portratying there statistics are below what they are in factual data an more so just making up your own standards, making up your own weights, making up the tigers capabilities he dosent even have, making up pretty much your whole fantasy match up of a fight where you want to have a smaller weaker lion lose to a bigger stonger tiger…which makes it seem all you are is just Bias…which is why I presented my data because I dont like the Idea when people make it a priorty to tarnish either or…50/50 is where I stand, yet if you wish to go by data…its a whole different ball game.

This board fights ignorance. My Lord is spreading knowledge here with his pertinent citations. He has devoted his efforts to establishing the facts. In fact, his 2003 model PC is the only thing holding him back from digging up more accurate historical data.

Unfortunately ignorance fights back. He has to still struggle to convince people. But his single-minded determination will pay off one day.

I vote that this thread be kept permanently open.

Did Jews keep Lions? I don’t know. May be My Lord can provide some citations.

## World Wide conspiracy you say? It has nothing with the world knowing the truth of the past(I’m pretty sure they know), its the present of Internet Manipulation that effects such a thing as uhhh? Brain washing, one commercial white lie an it can all fall apart for the future Knowledge of education in its implimations, [Example] how would you know the internet Bible is the exact same writings from the old testement? (You wont, you’d just either have to go by faith or dis-belife) One person miss-translating just a few words or dilibertly changing storys could destroy the whole implimation of what its explaining…just like how 80% of the people that have commented (who dosent know anything of this Topic) takes something like wiki as there Holy bible an clings to it for dear life (Not saying the program just the user), some take it to new heights an even lie that they know everything that wiki is true to the bone (which most arnt)…an cite an make up random an fake alibies just to get there Bias favoring (opinion) across. lol

## An 6 Pages? Some have pass 50 pages so what are you talking about?

## Again conspiracy? I’ll describe things an impliment better in how the (Past) of pretty much every continent, culture, reigon has recorded basically the (majority out come) an all of a sudden people are giving drop dead opinions like its a done deal by enphinsize-ing, Oh tigers always won by this entire culture, or this reigon had recorded that the tiger won 80% of the time, or this continent had said that the tiger never lost to the lion…well I got some bad news for everyone who speaking out there ass… Where’s the Proof???

## lol You take one book or one hear say, than you want others to belive for hundreds an thousands of years that the lion never beat the tiger.. or even lost more? lol That aint happening with the amount of Historical significance is wagered on the Libra scale, which no one brings anything of quality an quanity to prove other wise…yet I try…lets see now…

## Now, this (Post) is soley on the favoring of what “Countrys” favor a winner of lion vs tiger in a (Fight)??? Not What country has either or just used on coat of arms, or emblems because of (Native idenitys)… No, just what country has the direct dipliction an implimation of one or the other defeating the other in a remnent, scripture, sculpture, painting, etching, statue, an any type of (visual reading or pictorial artifact). Which would show a winning course, a advantage, a kill move, a leverage in the art-deco it self… that is under-standable or agree-able the it is portraying an evident winner.

## So lets get started…

Japan:-(Importations as far back as the 16th century)

This episode is a pantomime about a lion and a tiger. They fight each other and the lion catches the tiger in the end. This episode is originated from topographical characteristics of Mt. Baek at Suyeong. When a big lion appears in dancing, a tiger (called “Dambo”) comes. They dance and talk back and forth. In the end, the lion catches the tiger.
