Nonsense! It’s neck and neck for Edward Gorey and Chas Adams to claim the “Everybody Else Is Ripping Me Off” award. Of course, they stole it from “Terry and the Pirates” so it’s pretty much moot by now of course. Then again, “Terry” is blatantly derivative of Cruikshank, who stole it from Hogarth who was inspired after a visit to Lascaux… Psht, might as well just give up–it’s so difficult to be a purist aesthete these days. :rolleyes: ---

Bill Watterson was OK, but anyone who think it even comes within spitting distance with what Bill Keane achieved with Family Circus, well, you’re a syphilis-ridden compulsively-masturbating drooling spider monkey with a major head injury. The only one who came even close was Johnny Hart, but only when he made strips that implied Jews went to hell for not worshiping a guy that wasn’t even born yet during the time frame of the strip. Some of Jack Chick’s work is pretty good too. ---

And people wonder why I’m warped. Re the OP: I don’t mind a bit if **lissener** wants to think Kliban was better than Larson, or even if he wants to think that Larson was derivative of Kliban. It’s no skin off my nose. It’s the supercilious, anybody who doesn’t agree with me is blind or stupid or both manner in which he does so that grates on my last nerve. ---

His cat stuff (which seems to be the focus of that website) was pretty mainstream, cutesy-type stuff that made him a lot of money, but most of his comic output was significantly darker and stranger than Larson. ---

I’m a Kliban, Larson AND Bill Watterson fan (especially Larson though). My husband had some Kliban sheets when we met. They’re old old old and very tatterred now and we haven’t used them for years, but I can’t bring myself to throw them away.
