Rock concerts I paid for:

Dire Straits
Paul McCartney
Amnesty International (Tracy Chapman, Peter Gabriel, Bruce Springsteen)

I think that’s it.

I used to work security detail at a local venue (an outdoor pavilion that people would try to sneak in), and box office at another, so I never really watched the shows (too busy working), but I remember the Spin Doctors, Phish, and Dread Zeppelin offhand, and I know there were a couple dozen more, none of which come to mind…

Tried to answer earlier and the hamsters ate my post! :smack:

There’s no way I could list them all - I’m too damed old! But here are some of the more memorable ones:

James Brown and the Famous Flames; Spring 1967, Atlanta Municipal Auditorium

Cream; October 1968, Chastain Amphitheater, Atlanta. [This show](http://twtd.bluemountains.net.au/cream/chastain.htm)

Amboy Dukes, Soft Machine, Vanilla Fudge, Jimi Hendrix Experience; Spring 1969, Atlanta Municipal Auditorium (back in the days when you could see four acts on one bill!)

The first Atlanta Pop Festival, July 1969: Led Zepplin, Janis Joplin, Chicago Transit Authority, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Johnny Winter, Spirit, Richie Havens and a bunch of other acts

The original Fleetwood Mac (Peter Green, Jeremy Spencer, Danny Kirwan, Mich Fleetwood, John McVie; Fall 1969, Oglethorpe College, Atlanta

The Rolling Stones; Fall 1969, Auburn University (the “Get Yer Ya Ya’s Out” tour. The first time I ever heard “Midnight Rambler” - “Let It Bleed” hadn’t been released yet).

The Who; Summer 1970, Atlanta Municipal Auditorium (they essentially did their “Live at Leeds” set with “Tommy,” start to finish, in the middle.)

Cosmic Carnival; Atlanta Stadium, June 1970: Mothers of Invention, Traffic, Mountain, It’s a Beautiful Day, Allman Brothers Band, other acts.

Jefferson Airplane; August 1970, Atlanta Municipal Auditorium. “Volunteers” was their current release at the time.

David Bowie; Spring 1973, War Memorial Auditorium, Nashville. (The “Spiders from Mars” tour.)

Bob Dylan’s “Rolling Thunder Review;” I think it was Spring 1977, in some high school gym in Mobile, AL. (Dylan, Roger McGuinn, Mick Ronson; Joan Baez, Rob Stoner, Emmylou Harris, Kinky Friedman all in one unforgettable band.)

I’ve seen artists from the Amazing Rhythm Aces to Warren Zevon in venues ranging from small clubs to giant stadia, but I couldn’t list 'em all if I tried.

I’m too damned old!

Mine is a paltry list, though certainly not lacking in quality.

Men at Work, with INXS opening
Pink Floyd
The Police, with UB40 opening
Meatloaf
Paul McCartney
Little Feat, with Melissa Etheridge opening
Emmylou Harris, with Shawn Colvin opening
The Roches
Jan and Dean (okay, but it was a free concert and I was really into sixties groups)
The Byrds, the Turtles, and the Mamas and the Papas reunion show (all on one bill)

and the one I hate to name but it was a high school band thing and I really didn’t have any choice…Neil Sedaka (which really doesn’t count, I know, but for the sake of completeness I have to include him I’m so ashamed right now I need to shower)

How can a person follow that? Sheesh.
Prince (he opened for the Stones and was boo’ed off the stage - he started off with a song called “You Can Jack Me Off.” Stones fans were not amused.)

J. Geils

George Thorogood (he winked at me)

Stones (do I ever have stories from THAT concert. People were walking up and down the line yelling, "Acid! Four bucks a hit! Acid, Four bucks a hit!)

Madness

The Clash

The Who

Wall of Voodoo (got backstage at the Whiskey A GoGo!)

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band (No one does it better)

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers with Stevie Nicks (Meh)

The GoGos (small club, before they were famous. FUN band)

Steve Miller (better than I thought it would be)

The Doobie Brothers (not as good as I thought it would be)

Don McClean (the usual county fair crap)

Mike and the Mechanics (gay pride festival in L.A. about a hundred years ago)

Tommy Tutone (some college show)
