I have a question that has more to do with Star Wars fandom than anything else.

I’ve gotten the impression that there’s a huge fan base for Boba Fett. After re-watching the original trilogy not that long ago, I’m wondering why. He doesn’t really do all that much. Sure, he figures out what’s up with Han and Co. and manages to follow them to the Cloud City. Very clever. But that’s if for cool stuff. He calls Vader, hangs around for non-action figure Han and gets himself killed in “Return”. So why all the love? Does he do something really cool in one of the books that I don’t know about? Is it some kind of “he’s so mysterious in that mask” thing. Or what?

He looks cool. That’s all there is to it.

His action figure was (for a while) a limited edition, so there was a certain snob value in being part of the Boba Fett “crowd.”

At least, that’s how it was in my neighborhood.

(He also had a certain Shane quality to him: IIRC, he only has like three lines in the entire original trilogy.)

OK, here’s one I have. Correct me if I’ve got these facts wrong:
[list][li]Queen Amidala in Ep.1 becomes Senator Padme in Ep.2.[/li][li]The Queen employs doubles and sometimes pretends to be one of her own handmaidens.[/li][li]The Queen of Naboo is a term position, meaning at some point, she was a “civilian” before becoming a member of royalty/government.[/li][li]Thus, it’s logical to conclude that there would have been a certain amount of publicity and attention focused on whomever is (s)elected as the new Queen for the new term.[/li][li]Hence, it’s reasonable to assume that people were familiar with Padme and her identity before she became Queen.[/li]
So my question is: Why would the Queen, posing incognito as her handmaiden, use _her own frickin’ name_ as she does in Ep.1? Who does she think she’s fooling? “Hey, she looks just like the queen and has the exact same name as the queen. Think maybe she’s the queen?”

And while we’re at it…

“Listen, I know you’ve lost your wife, your legs, and the support of some of your now-dead fellow homesteaders, but I, a complete stranger to you, am now going to take your fully functioning, and no doubt quite helpful, droid away forever”…uh, Why?

It’s okay, I assume it’s not a HUGE spoiler. At least, I hope not.

I don’t mind the Force, but I prefer non-Jedi. They’re more interesting. (Wedge, Han, Wes, Tycho, Hobbie, the Wraiths, etc)

Also, Vergere was NOT a Jedi Master. She was a Knight, and a heretic, at that.
At [theforce.net](http://theforce.net) boards, we call her Kentucky-Fried Chicken.

😃

Also, I have a theory-Michael Jackson is a Yuuzhan Vong.

Could it be I killed a SW thread? Or all the fans can’t come up with an answer? Inquiring mind wants to know! 😉

Naboo is a pretty minor planet in the scheme of things at the time of TPM, despite being the homeworld of a rising-star Senator. It’s reasonable to assume that most people on Naboo won’t be talking to the queen’s handmaidens (or that she would use a different name if they did), while the Jedi and Anakin won’t know her first name, as they had no reason to know anything about Naboo prior to arriving there.

Two possibilites: Anakin paid for him offscreen. Or, he was only kept around by Shmi as a sentimental connection to Anakin…once Shmi died, Cliegg, who has “no use for a protocol droid” on a moisture farm, had no problem giving him to someone who might get some value out of him.

Spoilers for some indeterminate post-_RotJ_ novel:

Didn’t Boba Fett survive the Sarlacc? If I remember correctly, it spit him out. Can’t remember which book this was, though…

**jayjay** : That’d be in the Tales From Jabba’s Palace short story collection. It’s also mentioned briefly in the Tales of the Bounty Hunters collection, but no detail is given there.

Regarding the specifics:

He ends up, somehow or other, getting a hand free (he’s stuck to the wall by sticky tendrils, or somesuch) and lays hands on a grenade launcher (which is never seen or mentioned in any of the movies, or other stories, for that matter) and blows a hole to the surface with it. He drags himself out, and so on and so on.

> 1. In the beginning of Phantom Menace, the Jedis are shown to be able to run super quick when getting away from the destroyer droids but later in the movie Obi-wan is unable to run fast enough to get through the force fields to help his master. What’s up with that?

Tired out. You try fighting in a battle to the death with Darth Maul while making death-defying leaps and then see how fast you run and think, after falling about 50 feet down.

> 1. In Phantom Menace, Anakin is told to not think but feel in order to use the force but in AOTC Anakin is told to “think, use the force.” Which is it? Think or don’t think to use the force? Or maybe he meant think and use the force but wouldn’t thinking get in the way?

I think there is a difference in the word’s meaning there: The first case was telling Anakin to trust his instincts. The second was telling Anakin to calm down and not let his anger rule him.

> 1. If Palpatine is a Sith why can’t Yoda sense the darkside in him like he can in Dooku? By the way, is Dooku the dumbest name for a bad guy ever or what?

1. Cause the Jedi can’t, period. They just don’t have the fire anymore. Palpatine is where its at, baby!

2. I like it. Since when does every villian need be named “Tyrrador M’Shan’Dar”? People have silly names sometimes. Dooku isn’t even particularly abnormal from a lingual pint of view.

> [@](#):
>
> 1. Why didn’t Darth Maul just cut Obi-wan in half when he fliped over him in Phantom Menace? Ok, so the movie would have ended on a bad note. (=

Cuz Darth Maul is pretty good, but overconfident. Same thig that did in Palpatine, you know. Besides, he may be good, but he isn’t a God. He mad a very stupid mistake. Which is, in fact, pretty realistic. Pretty much everyone in Star Wars has screwed up royally at least once.

> Oh, I thought of a sixth. What is up with all the bad acting in the new series? Is it the script or directing or do most of these actors really just suck?

It was pretty bad in the first series, too. You’re just used to it. Seriously, Harrison Ford was the best new actor there. Alec Guinness was great. Mark Hamill wasn’t exactly lauded for his exquisite portrayal, however, and Princess Leia was less than exemplary. C’est la Vie.

1. Tatooine inheritance laws state that Anakin owns the droid.
2. Clieg Larrs wanted Anakin to have something to remind him.
3. He’d got enough labor without the whiny bucket of bolts anywhoo.

> Even granting for the sake of argument that Watto was the only vendor on the planet who could help them (and whose word did they take on that?), and that he couldn’t be “persuaded” to take their money, what’s to stop the Jedi from “persuading” some other merchant to change their Republic money to local currency?

1. Apparently, high-quality precision hyperdrives are hard to come by on a dirty spaceport on the fringes of civilization. Funny that. I mean, when was the last time you had trouble getting good repairs on your Lamborguini in Djibouti?
2. Because he’s an honest man and wasn’t trying to cheat Watto. Republic money just wasn’t worth anything there, eve asssuming he could find someone to change that much money.
3. He got interested in Anakin very quickly.
