Not to mention Calvera in The Magnificent Seven.
It amazing how he seems to play every major character’s father, including being the dead father in Six Feet Under. A lot in common with William Schallert, Patty Duke’s dad.
Was also Kevin Costner’s catcher in For the Love of the Game, a rather glurgy romance/baseball flick that I still inexplicably watch on occasion.
I have always loved Wilfred Brimley. Always the good-natured old coot. I remember him best as the crusty U.S. Attorney near the end of Absence of Malice.
Philip Baker Hall was one of P. T. Anderson’s main go-to guys from way back, having appeared in Magnolia, Boogie Nights, and Sydney/Hard Eight (in which he stars, actually).
Most people will probably remember him best as Mr. Bookman, the library cop, from an episode of Seinfeld.
ETA:
Not always so good-natured. Cf. The China Syndrome and The Firm.
Not to mention The Thing, one of the few films I recall that had him without his trademark walrus moustache
Yes, I’ll watch anything with Frank Morgan in it.
