Joe Elliott (Def Leppard) - his breath control is amazing! And, he really knows how to use his voice to convey emotion. Jon Anderson (Yes) - such clarity. Almost ethereal. Roger Whitaker - Just love his deep, smooth voice. (What a weird mix of people, eh? But, my musical tastes are all over the place) ---

Superb choices so far! Mine are [kd lang](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SztpluMDDd4) (a voice that just gets velvetier and richer as she ages), [Raul Malo](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IaN-9gXxqg4) (if you’ve never listened to him, do yourself a favor and give him a try. Amazing delivery and he’s not afraid to play with genres) and [Geoff Tate](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1c8UdpiF_T8) (I’ve seen him live and this is all him, 4 octaves and all). I think the thing that these three have in common is a distinctive delivery, major power, major chops and they are taking care of their gift so, hopefully, we’ll get to enjoy them for many more years. ---

I’m gonna screw this up, I just know it, but here goes: Mac Powell from _Third Day_. I don’t know why, but there you go. Loreena McKennitt Alison Krauss Bono probably should be in there somewhere, but I don’t want to drop any of those to fit him in. Maybe after I think about it a while… RR ---

> [@Leaffan](#): > > The first three that popped into my mind were: > > Jim Morrison - Yeah, I know he doesn’t have much range but his voice is quite haunting and he can primal scream with the best of them. > > **Carole King - Something soothing and mellow about her, especially on the Tapestry album.** > Roger Daltry - Great, great rock and roll energy and compassion. I played that album so many times that it just kind of wore out. Not much on technical quality, but BIG on warmth and soul. Love her!!! I can’t pick three favorites. There are too many. No matter who I decide on, I’ll find another that could make the list. ---
