List your three favorite singers

Alvin, Simon and Theodore!

Actually, I think I’ll go with Jeff Buckley, Sally Ellyson and … Eva Cassidy.

But I love all the rest of you, too!

John Lennon
Otis Redding
Joe Strummer

[ul]
[li]Tom Waits[/li][li]Neil Young[/li][li]Greg Dulli (Afghan Whigs)[/li][/ul]

Just three?? Agggh.

Freddie Mercury
Vivian Campbell [Def Leppard]–damn, but that boy can SING him some blues!
Bruce Dickenson

Joe Elliott (Def Leppard) - his breath control is amazing! And, he really knows how to use his voice to convey emotion.

Jon Anderson (Yes) - such clarity. Almost ethereal.

Roger Whitaker - Just love his deep, smooth voice.

(What a weird mix of people, eh? But, my musical tastes are all over the place)

Bjork
Tom Jones
Natalie Imbruglia

Ella Fitzgerald
Dinah Washington
kd lang

Geoff Tate - Queensryche
James LaBrie - Dream Theater
Lea Solonga - Broadway

Ask tomorrow and I’ll probably have a different three.

For pure vocal ability

Tarja what’s-her-face* (formerly with Nightwish)
Karen Carpenter
Elvis Presley

*Turunen. But I had to look it up :o

Lena Horne
Janis Joplin
Joe Cocker.

Ella Fitzgerald
Frank Sinatra
Van Morrison

Annie Lennox
Freddie Mercury
Michael Buble

Superb choices so far!

Mine are kd lang (a voice that just gets velvetier and richer as she ages), Raul Malo (if you’ve never listened to him, do yourself a favor and give him a try. Amazing delivery and he’s not afraid to play with genres) and Geoff Tate (I’ve seen him live and this is all him, 4 octaves and all).

I think the thing that these three have in common is a distinctive delivery, major power, major chops and they are taking care of their gift so, hopefully, we’ll get to enjoy them for many more years.

I’m gonna screw this up, I just know it, but here goes:

Mac Powell from Third Day. I don’t know why, but there you go.

Loreena McKennitt

Alison Krauss
Bono probably should be in there somewhere, but I don’t want to drop any of those to fit him in. Maybe after I think about it a while…

RR

I played that album so many times that it just kind of wore out. Not much on technical quality, but BIG on warmth and soul. Love her!!!

I can’t pick three favorites. There are too many. No matter who I decide on, I’ll find another that could make the list.

Maynard James Keenan from Tool-very expressive and dynamic
Norah Jones-smooth, soulfull, sexy
Merle Haggard-smooth and emotional

Robin Zander

Peter Case

Wilson Pickett

Sandy Denny by a country mile over everyone else. Anybody who doesn’t know who she was should definitely take the trouble to find out.

After that, Emmylou Harris and Maddy Prior.

Van Morrison
Muddy Waters
Richard Manuel

Keith Whitley
Patti Lupone
Eva Cassidy
