The colors of the sky, I’m told.
My rainbow is overdue.”

Many thanks Lieu and all of you. Yes this is helping. I’ve certainly got enough and could use even more if the Colour Folks out there are willing to keep trawling. The running gag in my novel is that a tourist brochure for a small (and dull) town is not only cliched but also all factually true. One sentence in the brochure therefore refers to the town’s “colourful street entertainers” (are there ever any other kind?) and I’m going to follow that up with sightings thru the book of wannabe rock-star buskers doing appalling versions (perhaps wearing wigs) of our favourite and most colourful rock and pop standards. As you can all appreciate, it’s a very, very serious novel. Apologies to all for not posting back before. This is mostly due to the embarrassment at not remembering Elvis Costello’s “Green Shirt” until reminded by Purd W.
“Ruby Red” by the Kingston Trio, circa 1960, mentions at least four colors.
There was also one called “The Prism Song”, '60’s or '70’s , that had many colors in the lyrics. Not sure of the artist on that one.
“Everything is Beautiful” by Ray Stevens begins with a classic children’s hymn:
…Little Boy Blue’s a Big Girl Now.
^ Hey, John, thanks! I didn’t really forget the last line, though, I just couldn’t ever figure out what the hell Ozzy was singing there. Anyway, now I know. Thanks again.
There haven’t been any posts to this thread for a couple of days now. I’ve got much more from everyone’s efforts than I thought I would so perhaps it’s time to close this down and free up some space for someone and something else. I’d like to thank everyone who has participated. This Rainbow Coalition has covered the spectrum. Time to go infra-red. Ciao for now - sol.una
Just one more:
“Black (black, black, black) and blue (blue, blue, blue)
and who knows which is which, and who is who?”
“The Colors of my Life” from “Barnum.” There are two different color lists (neither of which I can remember all the way through and we’re not supposed to post complete lyrics anyway) which contrast (homebody browns and greys vs. showman’s reds and golds) that two wretched street performers could sing as a wretched duet.
Cannot–resist–one–more–entry
“A White Sportcoat and a Pink Carnation” (And in a blue, blue, mood) Marty Robbins
“A White Sportcoat and a Pink Crustacean” Jimmy Buffett
Not so much a pop/rock song, but a truly colorful street performer would be required for “The Spectrum Song” (originally sung by that fine cartoon character Ludwig von Drake).
