Of course, it will take a while to develop as a resource, but I’m sure offers of mining development support are already pouring in.

According to [news sources close to the sites](https://www.indiatoday.in/science/story/lithium-india-reserve-discovery-ev-mineral-supply-refining-clean-energy-climate-change-2333141-2023-02-10), Lithium…

Wow! Sounds like the _Spice Melange_ of Arrakis!

Right now for the next 5-10 years, Lithium might be the most important resource in the world. Once we move beyond Lithium batteries, not so much.

Look for the development and production of Aluminum-Sulfur Batteries for cars and homes.

> MIT engineers designed a battery made from inexpensive, abundant materials, that could provide low-cost backup storage for renewable energy sources. Less expensive than lithium-ion battery technology, the new architecture uses aluminum and sulfur as...

Lots of work on Sodium-Ion also. Inexpensive and works at low heat.

Yeah…and there was some YouTube video I saw about Oxygen sandwiched between thin layers of something else. Of course, that was so long ago it might have been something I was watching on April 1st…

But that Sodium idea was another YouTube I remember. Seemed like we could desalinate oceans to get potable water and also energy – and/or diminish our water supplies globally.

And, as with any energy source, I’m lately starting to ponder the problems of hazardous production methods and waste byproducts.

Can’t win for losing…

Also, I understand Lithium is by no means a rare element on the planets crust …

its more a race towards _“ **where can you harvest huge amounts of it the cheapest possible way in countries that are mostly friendly** ”_

But the real question: are there dilithium crystals?

As I’ve mentioned before, when I was working on Laser Propulsion many years ago, we wanted to “seed” our target materials with alkali metal compound to have easy ionization. One possibility we tried, even though it didn’t look very proimising, was – **Dilithium Tartrate**

Because, you know, we HAD to.

It didn’t really work, but, as far as I know, we were the only group to investigate the serious use of dilithium crystals for space travel.
