Why shouldn’t he be allowed to join an activity that will help stimulate his mental processes? Such activity is known to help people with Alzheimer’s. It seems as if you’re suggesting he should just stop communicating with the world and check himself into the nearest nursing home and wait to die? Why is it so difficult for everyone else to have an ounce of compassion and cut someone with health issues a little slack? Misunderstandings and miscommunications that lead to major meltdowns over somewhat minor issues are par for the course here and they happen to people with no known medical issues. If we banned everyone that this has ever happened to, this would be a very quiet place. ---

You’re making some very good points, but if I may, can I remind you that I am the “new kid on the block” as far as the EOAD is concerned? Inappropriate behavior/speech is very common with this disease, and one cannot always “tell” how one will react, and I am sorry about that. I just finshed a poster which reads: **THINK TWICE, POST ONCE!** , and it’s affixed to my monitor as a reminder to prepare myself before “jumping in”. I am also researching the possibility of “trigger” words which might “set” me off. (Think: _"Niagara FALLS?!_ slowly I turn…" \*that \*kinda thing). Please know that I am very proactive with this thing, and I am learning as much as I can about AD, but remember: I am on 2 AD meds and 2 anti-depressives, so there exists the possibility of adverse reactions. I guess what I’m trying to say is that it is difficult to “pigeon-hole” all the signs and symptoms of AD or what may happen 5 minutes from now, in my case, but I’ve never been the kind of guy to sit idly by and do nothing, so I keep my blog and watch myself and what I do and/or say. Or try to. 😉 But the “bottom line” is that even though the Alzheimer’s slogan is “You are **not** alone”, except for work and y’all, that’s _exactly_ what I am: Alone and to be honest, (even though I haven’t _always_ been this way on SDMB) I wouldn’t know what to do if I couldn’t come here and be with my friends from all over the world. I think that I am seeing my mortality a little more…_finite_ due to the AD. Thanks Bill ---

Wikipedia says he retained the Zowie as a middle name, however. Even if he was born Duncan Jones, there are plenty of other examples of eccentric names celebrities give their kids. Moxie Crimefighter Gillette has already been given, for example. Barring some really bizarre set of circumstances, I can’t see how those names can be dangerous. Annoying, yes. Not just because it’s an assholish, immature opinion to taut, but like others said, it’s wrong. Did you just skim along and then spew what you had to say or did you choose to completely disregard what **Quasi** had to say? It’s obvious, as **emilyforce** detailed, that he’s 1) not senile, but experiencing early bouts of onset Alzheimer’s, 2) didn’t even realize he was in the Pit in the first place, and 3) does anyone know up front that they are not going to understand a discussion? I mean, even for the self-absorbed, shouldn’t that be evident. And no, I don’t think _you_ should worry about being nice to anyone for a _reason_. Because I think that option is something seriously out of your reach at the moment. Perhaps as you gain a bit of wisdom, you’ll see that it never costs anyone a damn thing to do so for even _no reason at all_, let alone those that might deserve a bit of extra compassion due to something horrendous beyond their control. **Enola Gay** , You’re right, and I did create a signature line which links to my blog. Guys, it’s **okay** that y’all didn’t know, so please don’t apologize to me over it, okay? I created a thread about it as soon as my doc started me on Aricept, but I guess not everyone saw it, and, to tell you the truth, I battled with myself over creating that thread to begin with. However, since you all are such a big part of my life, I concluded that you should know. I can still work, drive, dress myself and function. I just have these times when my mind takes a vacation, and they seem to be getting more frequent. My blog is in my signature below. If you should decide to visit, be prepared for what y’all call “TMI”, because I don’t hold back anything. Our little “drama” is written about, for example. Also, if you click on the google ads I get 2 cents which will be sent to the Alzheimer’s Organization. Altzheimers must be a terrifying condition for anyone who suffers from it. And I do think you can do a lot to help those of us who don’t know much about the disease since you are so open and willing to discuss the issues you face. I hope you will continue to post and I also hope you realize that most dopers are decent people but miscommunications are bound to happen on any message board. Don’t take anything personally.
