Yes, they do.

And our national policy today should be conformed to Emma Lazarus’ poem, because Ms. Lazarus knew in 1883 what our national immigration policy should be in 2010.

Now excuse me – I’m off to GD to debate some people who think that using the original text of the Constitution to divine its meaning is silly, because people who wrote the words so long ago had no idea what our actual national policy should be today.

Damn. If only the Constitution’s authors had been poets instead of elected officials, I could win that argument, huh?
