Suddenly the page numbers have disappeared from some documents, and the little icon (in the “Insert” tab) marked “page number” has gotten grayed-out, so i can’t access it. Anyone know how to fix this? Online tutorials are useless. ---

Are you talking about Microsoft Word? Check that your document is in fact a Word Document (.docx) and not text or something that doesn’t support features like page numbers. What view mode are you in? Try Print Layout. ---

Yes, sorry, Microsoft Word. Yes, these are all Word Documents, docx. Yes!! That was it. Somehow I got into “web layout”–no idea how that happened. Thank you. Driving me nuts all day.
