The next Die Hard movie will be coming out July 4th. I saw a trailer for it tonight at the theatre! Bruce Willis is THE MAN. ---

WHO CARES?!?!? It’s another “Die Hard” movie and I’m looking forward to it. If it’s not “over the top” it wouldn’t be a “Die Hard” movie. ---

The film was hardly a **Die Hard** at all - it was more of a sequal to **Speed**. Too much puzzle-solving, not enough shooting. **Die Hard** films are all about Bruce Willis shooting people, and the mocking them. ---

**Die Hard 2** just about had as many plot holes as I’ve seen a major motion picture have. I love action but (c.f. **24** ) if it is too implausible then forget it. ---

I’m looking forward to it as well. I have to admit, this is the movie I’m cheering for the most this summer. In my mind, I know it should suck, but I am hoping for it to be great. My wife and I may be there opening weekend, unless the reviews are horrible. ---

There is one scene in the trailer that blows my mind. I really want to know how they did the shot from street level of the guy falling out of the window on to the hood of the car. Amazing. ---

Seriously? The original _Die Hard_ was a masterpiece of ruthless efficiency in screenwriting and plot development. There isn’t a single shot, comment, or action that is wasted, and the cusp of the film–with Willis walking in and shooting Hans and the henchman “like John Wayne”, and then struggling to release the Rolex watch (purchased by the pestiferous Ellis—greatest throwaway character in the film)–was one of the most brilliant culimations ever. The thing is puzzle-fitted together like a Chinese Box. Bruce Willis offers a competent performance–essentialy the same one as he has done in every movie since–but Alan Rickman and Alexander Gudonov shine as the villians, aptly supported by a cast of great character actors. _Die Hard II_ was a quick cash-in, a movie that made very little sense in any context (why can’t they just take over the plane and have the guy land at some regional airport before anybody even knows what’s going on?). _Die Hard III_ was just a painful mess, like leftovers of _The Long Kiss Goodbye_, a vastly superior outing for Samuel L. Jackson. This thing? From the trailer, it just looks like _Really Big Explosions XXVIII_, combined with some tired self-referential humor by guys who missed seeing _Kiss Kiss Bang Bang_. Thanks, but I’ll stay home and watch the original, adn the follow it up with a Sam Peckinpah masterpiece like _The Wild Bunch_ or _The Getaway_. And Bruce Willis doesn’t hold a candle to Steve McQueen. Heck, I don’t think he could even take on Sigorney Weaver and come out unbroken. Stranger ---

I add in that I think **Stranger** nailed it. BTW, if you’re interested in serious film scholarship and study of action movies, I heartily recommend a book called _Action Speaks Louder_ by Eric Lichtenfeld. Very thorough and excellent analysis.\* - [sub]I say it, even if I do know the author[/sub]
