My parents RV full-time in a 30" fifth wheel. They really like being able to unhitch the trailer and take the truck when they want to go somewhere. When they retired, they sold or gave away everything and my Dad picked my Mom up from school on the last day and off they went! They seem to be getting along just fine. They have a laptop with wireless, satellite TV, a DVD player, bikes, a dog…a far cry from the tent camping we used to do as a kid!
I was really surprised to learn that there is an entire subculture of fulltime RV’ers out there. Plenty of support and plenty of places to stay. Diesel prices have curtailed some of their travelling…they had orginally planned on moving every couple of weeks but now they stay three or four.
If you have any specific questions, I can ask them for you.
I have medical insurance, and I’ll have savings from the sale of my house. That way, I won’t have to deal with the house when the time comes. There are plenty of opportunists ready to “help” when you need to sell in a pinch.

The transmission already has a cooler, and is trailer ready. But I’l be sure it’s optomized before I commit to a trailer. The truck is rated for 5000lbs, and the farthest I’m ever likely to go in one jump is maybe two days (1K miles or so). And those trips will be pretty few and far between. The RV underground , mentioned above by Ol’Gaffer, will advise me of the gentlest route. When the time nears I’ll be in closer contact with them.
Transmision and engine technology, and materials, have improved a lot over the years. And Honda has a pretty good reliability rating. Plus, I maintain my truck.
We’ll see.
I checked around. No 5th wheel for three main reasons:
[ul]
[li]No good place to anchor it in the composite bed.[/li][li]The inbed trunk (a great feature, IMO) would interfere, placing the 5th too far forward.[/li][li]Most 5th wheel trailers exceed the 5000lb limit of the Ridgeline.[/li][li]A load balance hitch works just as well for a small trailer.[/li][/ul]
There you go. Or rather, there I don’t go.
BTW; One of the owners tows a 19ft Airsream all over with no problems.
Still, I may go for a motorhome and tow around a small vehicle.
