Living with PCOS

There are whole grain breads available at health food stores (and some progressive grocers). This isn’t “whole wheat flour” but “whole grain bread.”

Many fruits are fine on many low-carb diets. Berries seem to cause a particularly low rise in blood glucose (and thus in insulin).

I went to the library last night to find some books, just because I prefer books to internet information. I guess someone else in my area also has issues because they checked out the books back in Feb and still have them! Luckily some of the other libraries in the system also have copies so I’m getting some sent over.

I’ve tried finding some low carb diet or cookbooks and haven’t had any luck at one bookstore nor the library. I did get a Sugar Addicts book at the bookstore and it seems to follow a low carb guideline.

I’ll be sure to ask the doctor about the tests everyone has mentioned. I hope he’ll be willing to do them. I’ll be sure to let everyone know who things go at that visit.

Anyone got any good meat/cheese recipes?

Kyann22, check out the lowcarbfriends.com website and message board. Several people are PCOS sufferers there. You could also check out the Atkin’s website (www.atkinscenter.com) for information on how to do Atkin’s if you decide to go that route. Giving up carbs is, believe it or not, not as difficult as you’d think, once you make it past the first few days.

I was diagnosed with PCOS and Insulin Resistance at the end of 2002. My doctor recommended reading The Insulin Resistance Diet. I got my copy off of amazon. It is a great guide to adjusting to eating low carb. It’s easy to follow and it’s been a great help to me. Much well wishes to all those of us dealing with PCOS.
