Ken Livingstone is a twit. I don’t think anyone would disagree.
He’s capable of insulting anyone. So he’s capable of insulting Jews. But I await evidence of his anti-semitism (note: opposing policies instigated by Israel, or other Israeli structures, is not in itself anti-semitism)
might one not, with some justification, urge the position that to use the nazi analogy as a method of conveying one’s ineluctable condemnation of the person on the receiving end, implies as an unstated major premise the evil of the nazis?
Disclaimer:Red Ken is just alright with me.
Calling a Jew a Nazi concentration camp guard seems pretty anti-semitic to me. YMMV. I guess alaric’s does.
And see Jackmanni’s post above.
Also, not anti-semitism, but Washington Post columnist reports hearing Red Ken give a lengthy and passionate defence of Joe Stalin. So maybe I should have said obnoxious Stalinist asshole. Still it should be up to the voters in London whether he remains as Mayor.
Well, of course, retention of my trotskyite credentials demand condemnation of stalinists, whether pro or anti semitic. I await the citation for the accusation so as to educate myself further on the topic…
Well here’s the column in question. It’s just her word, but she’s always struck me as a pretty level-headed observer, one of the better pundits out there. I don’t think she’s making it up. She makes the same points I made, that however obnoxious Ken may be, it should be up to the voters whether or not he remains in office, and that free speech is meaningless unless it protects obnoxious speech.
Had you mentioned anne a. ab initio I would have spared you the trouble of retrieving the cite. She has 0 credibility with me.
