Just been announced that candidates need 100 nominations from Tory MPs to enter the contest. Final round last time was Sunak 137 Truss 113 Mordaunt 105 So where do the 113 Truss backers go? Ideally into a cave to contemplate their failure, but more likely to coalesce around one of Boris, Braverman or Badenoch. Sunak and Mordaunt may go up against each other but may try to arrange a joint ticket kind of deal if they can agree on who gets to be top dog. In general, there is an enormous amount of horse trading about to kick off, which will be incredibly edifying for everyone. ---

On top of what everyone else said: Some people made an awful lot of money from her brief and disastrous time as PM. Truss hosted a dinner party for hedge fund managers the evening before announcing her unfunded tax cuts that led to the selling frenzy. They shorted the pound. ---

Strikes me that this latest round of Who Wants to be a Prime Minister is a bit like a reverse Catch-22 situation for any wannabe candidates. To prove you are sane enough to take the job you can’t possibly put yourself up for nomination, as anybody who does that at the moment is clearly insane. ---

I really don’t think Truss is metric. Wasn’t the whole point of Brexit that they could go back to Imperial units? Edit: in fact, I suspect the whole disaster is because of a math error, trying to convert Thatchers (SI) to Trusses (Imperial). ---
