2001 Genoa
2002 Ottawa
2003 Someplace in France
2004 Someplace in the U.S.
2005 Someplace in the U.K.

Does anyone know – have they picked the cities yet for the 2003, 2004, and 2005 G8 Summits? If not, any idea what the leading contenders are? And is it likely that Russia will be added to the rotation?

It appears from [this May 2001 article](http://www.alexmunter.com/news_article.php?ID=72) that announcements are made at the previous year’s summit.

> \*\*While the host city will not be announced until the 2001 summit in Genoa, Italy, in July, Ottawa is widely expected to be the next destination.

\*\*This timing is about what I remember from the 1990 summit, when Houston and San Antonio were known to be jockeying for the honors, but SA didn’t have enough hotel rooms. Seems silly in light of what Chretien’s doing next year.

I wouldn’t have thought Russia would be accorded full G8 status by getting to host the summit, but read
[this 1998 speculation](http://www.expressindia.com/ie/daily/19980517/13750904.html) about the possibility of Russia hosting the summit in 2000.

> **"I don’t think there’s any appetite for Russia hosting a G8 summit until the cycle" of other countries already scheduled to host the annual summits has been run through, the official said…Yeltsin is keen to host the G8 summit before his term of office runs out in 2000 as a powerful symbol of Russia’s return to the forefront of the world’s nations.**

The next one is not going to be in Ottawa, but in Kananaskis Park in the Canadian Rockies. They chose the more remote location in an attempt to avoid large-scale protests. The meeting will start June 26, 2002.

Thank very much. The information is for a game I’m working on. I’m trying not to make any glaring factual errors in the storyline, but if they really only announce the site a year in advance I can safely make something up.
