Can anyone recommend a good book on the history of London’s Underground? I tried looking on Amazon and found one called London Under London, which covers the Underground, but I was hoping for one devoted exclusively to the Underground, rather than just having a section or two about it. Thanks!

I can’t recommend a specific book, but [[the London Transport Museum website]](http://www.ltmuseum.co.uk/cgi-bin/shop.cgi?cmd=category&category_id=2&customer_ID=1LvkhAAA736552137489) has a large range for sale.

I don’t know any books, but there are plenty of enthusiast web sites, many of which look pretty comprehensive to me.
[This site](http://www.londonrailways.net/links.htm) has plenty of links, some of which cover the history of the underground.

Isn’t that a political movement?

Try looking for **Underground Railways of the World** by O.S. Nock for a start.

You might try this [webring](http://c.webring.com/hub?ring=londonundergoun1&id=5&hub) too. Full of tube sites.

[Abandoned Stations](http://www.abandonedstations.co.uk/) has the pictures of … I’ll leave you to guess. For more detail, [click here](http://www.starfury.demon.co.uk/uground/).

A better site is [http://www.davros.org/rail/culg/](http://www.davros.org/rail/culg/) which has everything anyone could possibly want to know about the tube.

I really enjoyed a book about the changes made to the poster / map of the Underground: “Mr. Beck’s Underground Map” by Ken Garland from 1994. It’s more about style and design etc., but some useful Underground info as well.
