We don’t do that with our Royals either.

It is very much against the rules to modify someone else’s quote on this board, 2Bits (refer to the FAQ). Don’t ever do this again.
I shan’t. Apologies to all concerned!
It has been that way pretty much forever:
19 Nevertheless, the people refused to listen to the voice of Samuel, and they said, “No, but there shall be a king over us, 20) that we also may be like all the nations, that our king may judge us and go out before us and fight our battles.”
So sayeth the elders of Israel elders in 1 Samuel 19 & 20
Americans sometimes think kings and queens hold real power, for some reason. There appears to be an impression of royalty that calcified at the time of the American revolution.

I’m happy with my Queen, and am looking forward to the distant day – assuming a particular court challenge is successful – that Canada gets to repatriate the Crown and Throne, since the line of succession will split from that of England and the other Commonwealth countries.
Especially since the alternative seems to be Donald Trump.
Yes! Canadianize the monarchy! We’ve made a good start with Canadian heraldry, so now we should go all the way. I suggest that our ceremonial head of state should be draped in Indigenous symbolism.
