I don’t know how to link directly to it but AHunter3’s post in IMHO is one of the longest I remember seeing. So, what is _the_ longest single post on the Dope? ---

Step 1: Go to said link and highlight the address bar. Step 2: right click, select “copy” Step 3: Come back to this thread and hit post reply Step 4: Click on the chain icon just above the posting box. Step 5: Right click again inside the pop up box Step 6: Select “paste”. Step 7: click “OK” Step 8: click “submit reply”. ---

I don’t think it was just one post, but there was a poster who posted a quite entertaining history of the Byzantine Empire awhile back. Some of the replies to “What if someone else had written The Hobbit/ LOTR?” thread were very long. ---

There used to be an actual character limit on posts. I remember running into this problem once, and having to split my post into two separate posts because vBulletin said they were too long. That was quite a long time ago, though, and i’m not sure if the size limit on posts is still in effect. The time i had to split was in my [discussion](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?p=5007548#post5007548) of Christopher Hitchens’ review of Fahrenheit 911. ---

What’s a “chain icon”? The link icon with a globe and what I guess is a little piece of chain? Does the board handle post links differently than others? (Never looked, I guess.) ---

The limit was still in place the one time I played Mafia, a year or two ago. I hit it when I was trying to air grievances against another player. I want to say it was ~25,000 characters. ---

I don’t know what the longest post is, but the board supports posts up to 25000 characters long. The post in question is less than half of that. ---

I was going through another player’s posts one by one and building a case for lynching him (if you haven’t played Mafia, it may not make sense. Hell, I _have_ played Mafia, and I’m not sure it entirely makes sense to me.) I went back to that game and confirmed the post limit was 25K characters at the time. I had to cut some to get under the wire. So **mhendo** and I, and presumably others, are probably tied to for the lead in longest posts. ---

Gosh do I want to be the guy who posts 25000 characters in a spoiler not including the characters above it and of the “Spoiler” code itself. As a test, like all the other test posts, and I know the hamsters really don’t give a shit. But I won’t. ---
