Oh my god. That image will stick with me for a while. Its not so much the disfigurement itself but the look of sadness on their faces. ---

What is the problem with you people? He was burned. He isn’t beautiful, but he’s alive! She loves him, or she wouldn’t have married him. Who lives _under_ the scars is more important than the package. My only problem with the picture, is the people who look at it as a sideshow. ---

I take it at face value, she loves him for who he is, not what he looks like. It probably took at least as much courage for him to be there and pose for those wedding pictures, as it took for him to face whatever caused his injuries. ---

Cripes. I opened this thinking, " :rolleyes: If it’s the bride smoking and chugging a beer, I’ve seen it." :smack: Word to **A.R. Cane** ’s post. The groom’s courage is greater than I can imagine. What I can remark on is the bride’s love and loyalty. If it’s not out of line, it reminds me of a quote from Harry Potter 6 (spoiler for the 10 people who haven’t read it yet) “All those scars show is that my husband is brave!” ---

[/QUOTE] I’m not sure too much should be read into the expressions; we don’t know these people or their mannerisms; for all we know, the bride could be trying not to smile because she has wooden teeth or something, or maybe the photographer just caught her off guard, or whatever. ---

Or they may have wanted a solemn pic of the two of them (I prefer pics without smiles and had some taken of my kids that way when they were little). Given that marriage is truly a huge undertaking and a solemn occasion, I give them credit for showing that emotion. Sure, she could be looking into the future like a deer in the headlights(to me, her eyes look afraid), but we don’t really know. It may well be a honest moment captured forever on film. who knows? Smiling or not, the picture is tragic–such young healthy life, marred forever and for what? A man’s ego and greed? This pic is one of perhaps thousands. Sad to think that we can look on something like this, and know that as bad as his injuries are, there are much worse out there. I hope they do well. ---

I don’t want to engage in an argument about the ifs, buts and maybes about the photo. I don’t think his injuries are particularly terrible, I have seen worse in real life and we don’t have to wonder about the intent of [Nina Berman](http://www.ninaberman.com/index3.php?pag=prt&dir=imagesph) but nonetheless I feel terribly sorry for both of them. ---

I don’t think this is a posed photograph. As in it looks like the couple are getting ready to pose but haven’t been set yet. Seems like the bride is getting off-camera direction and the groom is trying to figure out how he should stand next to her. Granted, it’s an awesome picture and the moment captured really did happen, it doesn’t seem like the way we are viewing it is the way they were feeling it. At least, that’s what I like to think. ---

The photos and the story behind it were covered in detail by the Sunday Times a couple of weeks ago: [Sunday Times link](http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/article1294008.ece) There were many other moving photos of the wedding day selected to illustrate the piece in the print edition. All of them have a sombre air to them. ---
