# Looking for a good movie?

I have found a good technique to let me see many good movies and I’d like to share it with you all.
I run two searches. The first search is an “advanced search” for the word “movies”. It’s important to specify the search be done in “Search Titles Only” and it’s important to specify it be done in the forum “Cafe Society” or else it will take far too long. I usually limit this search to just 2 or 3 years, but you may find a different length of time works best for you.
The second search is identical except I search for the singular form, i.e. “movie”.
Thee are many threads that ask people to post favorite movies or movies they could watch over and over and many different threads too. Bottom line is that you can spend hours (if you like) reading about people’s opinions of their favorite movies and get many good leads for some movies you’ve never seen but would like to try.
If anyone here can see any way to improve upon these searches or improve upon this technique, I certainly would like to hear about it.

I have a list I’ve compiled over the years of over a hundred SDMB threads in which posters recommend films. The only change I would make in your method is that you should search on all of the words “movie,” “movies,” “film,” “films,” “flick,” “flicks,” “Netflix,” “anime,” “movielist,” “cinema,” “musical,” and “musicals” in the title of the threads. This search will get all the relevant SDMB threads.

I use the key words “good” and “movies” in my google searches. Boy, you wouldn’t believe how many “good” “movies” are out there.

You should also include in the combination words like “Andie” or “Sandler” or “Aniston.”

Speaking of which, the [NYT review](http://www.nytimes.com/2014/05/23/movies/adam-sandler-and-drew-barrymore-in-blended.html?hpw&rref=movies) of Sandler’s newest crapfest is hysterical. “Blended” is rated PG-13 (Parents strongly cautioned). It will make your children stupid."

You could also search words, “action”, “non-action”, “fiction”, “non-fiction”, “documentary”, “non-documentary”, “non-reality TV”, “John Wayne”, “non-John Wayne” and “Jefferson Airplane” as they have all turned up good movies for me.
