Shhh! 🙂

Aside to **davidmich** –you’re quite welcome, and I’m sure that the Canadian Dopers will look forward to your commentary and further questions as you read our history.

Especially when I’ve spent any time in Chicago (or God forbid, Detroit), the Toronto area seems like Heaven on Earth! So much less crime and poverty and it’s so clean! The Canucks that I’ve encountered have also been such genuinely kind and friendly people…the difference compared to large Northern U.S. cities is pretty sad…

With Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, and Stan Rogers to choose from, you prefer Anne Murray? Actually, my favorite Canadian singer is the essentially unknown Carol Welsman.

Yep, I was country when country wasn’t cool, I suppose…“Shadows In The Moonlight” is one of my all-time favorite songs!

In 1980, when I was 5, my mom bought a '77 Olds Cutlass Supreme from my cousin. It was the loaded 'Brougham" 2-door with every option available including the AM/FM 8-track stereo. Ronnie Milsap, Anne Murray, Olivia Newton-John and Linda Rondstadt rounded out our extensive 8-track collection and we listened to them over and over until she traded it for an '86 Cutlass Supreme in Nov 1985. Then we upgraded to cassette! 😛

If you don’t mind a book about a specific Canadian event, I can recommend this book on the Halifax explosion: [Curse of the Narrows: The Halifax Disaster of 1917](http://www.amazon.com/Curse-Narrows-Halifax-Disaster-1917/dp/0802715109http://)
