Well hello to all, I’ve been what you call ‘lurking’ for quite some time now, hooked in through the SD web site, observing all that goes on 'round these parts. Today i decided i was finally going to take the plunge – make my first post. Of course i wouldn’t want to waste something so precious posting on an inane or unpopular thread, and as i was considering where i should write my first post, it occurred to me that i could ask other SDMB posters for some advice. What’s the best place to make my first post? Any ideas? ---

hey, thanks for the warm welcome guys. TS, the check is in the mail. Anti Pro, thanks for the compliment. i realized after the fact that the second post was unnecessary and in fact detracted from the tautological humor inherent in my post. but i’m a newbie, what are ya gonna do. ---

“the choice of a new generation of dropouts,” quite pithy. yeah one of the intended meanings of my name is i’ve heard it’s another name for moonshine/grain alcohol. the “rule” for grain alcohol is, if you can taste it in your drink, there’s too much. the kind i get here, Everclear, comes with a “Flammable” warning label, which i think is awfully cool. once at college i got an empty Everclear bottle, filled it up with water, and gave my RA a heart attack. enough about me. how are you? ---

well, **Democritus** , my favorite band used to be the band named Everclear, and i liked that the moniker “White Lightning” was associated with both alcohol and rock music, two of my favorite things, so i appropriated it some time ago. there’s the additional issue of the word “white,” since it’s always been a big joke with my friends that i’m the only white guy they hang out with, so i go by “white dude” or “whitey” when i’m with them, and when i first started making names for message boards and things online i used names like “White Dude” etc, so when i thought of White Lightning it just fit perfectly. thanks for asking. **nadin** and **Tabithina** , i’m very glad to meet the two of you. a big welcome {{{{{{nadin}}}}}} from one newbie to another. how cruel of them not to have welcomed you. just think, in a year or five _we_ can be the ones to haughtily stick our noses up at the newbies of the future! that’s not to say i’m not all warm and fuzzy inside at how nice the board has been to me. you’ve been great. ---
