It was a metallic tube a few inches long and wide that supposedly flew through the air, spinning like a Frisbee. If throwed properly it would curve. ---

I remember the toy but not the name sorry. I saw a similiar product, made of plastic, at Books A Million. I decided that since I was never able to throw the metallic original, I should not spend the $8.99 ---

Hey, we had ten-foot high monkey bars over concrete (over hard-packed dirt in the more safety-conscious playgrounds), wooden swing seats, and metal sliding boards that got scorching hot in the sun. Lawn darts were relatively safe. Except for the variant we played where we stood on opposite sides of a thick hedge and chucked the darts blindly over the hedge - that could get gnarly. ---
