Looking for anachronistic-style song covers!

My pleasure.

Paul Anka sings Jump by Van Halen in swing style.

ETA: Forgot to say: He did a whole album of these covers called Rock Swings.

The Carolina Chocolate Drops-“Hit 'Em Up Style”

Richard cheese has made a career out of lounge singing stuff.

Pat Boone put out an album of Pat Boone’d heavy metal songs a decade or so back.

Surprised nobody’s mentioned Nouvelle Vague yet. Too Drunk to Fuck

I was going to mention the 1960s version of “Flagpole Sitta,” but Flywheel beat me to it.

Obligatory Ke$ha links:
TiK ToK” by Richard Cheese
Die Young” by Postmodern Jukebox

The Puppini Sisters do a lot of this. Mostly taking modern songs and recording them in 40s swing close-harmony style.

I Will Survive
Kate Bush’s Wuthering Heights
Crazy In Love
Heart of Glass

I had no idea. Thanks very that, very enjoyable.

In addition to Jonathan Coulton’s famous “Baby Got Back,” he’s also covered:

Destiny’s Child’s Bills, Bills, Bills - Sort of a country, bluegrass mix; once the banjo kicks in, it gets really awesome

Queen’s We Will Rock You = country/rock… to me it sounds like a posse or a gang riding into some sleepy Wild West town. And then you get a sitar sound at the end and I don’t know what the heck it is, but it’s great. Oh, and the claps were provided by fans, who submitted them one at a time via MP3 without knowing what they were for.

Queen’s We Are the Champion - country/folk/rock, sort of Eagles-esque; I could hear Don Henley or Glenn Frey singing this easily.

Beatles/McCartney’s I Will - not sure what style this is, folk of a sort, I guess

Billy Joel’s Pressure - folk

Alanis Morisette’s You Oughta Know - folk; what works so well here is it sounds like a guy who lost his lover to a woman

Rick Springfield’s “Don’t Talk to Strangers” (can’t find a link) - imagine this '80s synth song redone by Dan Fogelberg

Max Raabe & The Palast Orchester “Super Trouper” (ABBA)

The Baseballs are the rockabilly version of The Puppini Sisters. They do great 50s rock style versions of current and recent pop songs. Some work better than others but here are two really good ones. Sadly, they’re a German band and their songs aren’t available on U.S. itunes.

Disney put out “Heigh Ho, Mozart,” an album of Disney songs in the style of various classical composers.

Here’s “Under the Sea” in the style of Scott Joplin.

Simply awesome. Love the arrangement, the musicianship, and just watching everyone on stage have fun.
