Looking for cellphone recommendations

I got a moto G6 play for £150 unlocked, great battery life, decent camera, can do everything I’ve ever required.

Imagine the phone being a lump of electonics fitted into a tight box, with the case being the box. The edge of the box can be flush with the top of the screen. On my phone, the flat glass goes all the way to the edge of the box, and the box is around 1 mm thick. You could think of that as a 1 mm bezel, but I don’t. (Looking at it from the edge, the screen is maybe a quarter mm higher than the edge of the case–on my previous phone the glass was maybe a half mm below the edge height—I liked it better that way because it gave the theoretical possibility of providing some protection from scuffing if the phone happened for some reason to slide across a surface face-down.)

BTW, you mention battery life–the Galaxy S8 has a 3,000 mAH battery, which is actually really underwhelming by today’s standards.

Thanks for mentioning that. The Pixel 3a also has a 3000 mAh battery, but the OnePlus 6T has 3700. Of course that doesn’t mean anything without knowing how much power the phone draws, but gsmarena doesn’t like the battery life on the 3a XL which has a slightly larger battery and slightly larger screen than the 3a so I’m guessing the battery life is similar. gsmarena rates the S8 at 84 hours and the OnePlus 6T at 90 hours but unfortunately they don’t seem to have an analogous rating for the Pixel. Still, one more point for the OnePlus over the Pixel I think.

You could wait to get a Librem 5, if and when they come out but anything running stock Android or Apple OS is fair game for data mining.

I think you’ve made your decision having read through the posts. If I had had the budget the Oneplus 7 would have been in my pocket as opposed to the Essential Phone, but I’ll still advocate for it as it still has a lot of cool features and is getting regular updates (mine’s running Pi and the latest security updates).

Just a note that if the OP thinks about the Oneplus 7, make sure it isn’t the Pro version. The not-Pro one has a flat display but the Pro has a curved one.
